Diesel Mechanic / Diesel Technician

Location: Madison, Wisconsin

Company: I-State Truck Center

I-State Truck Center is hiring Diesel Mechanics of all experience levels at our Madison location. We’re open to recent diesel graduates, automotive technicians looking to move into heavy-duty repair, and experienced diesel technicians ready for their next opportunity.

Our technicians work on Class 6–8 trucks, including Freightliner, Western Star, and other major heavy-duty platforms, with engines such as Detroit Diesel, Cummins, CAT, and more.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • Troubleshoot diesel engines, aftertreatment, electrical, brake, suspension, and drivetrain systems.
  • Use diagnostic tools such as Cummins INSITE, Detroit Diesel DiagnosticLink, and other OEM software.
  • Repair and replace components based on your skill and experience level.
  • Accurately document repairs and completed service work.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Participate in ongoing technical and manufacturer training.

What We’re Looking For

  • Entry-level through experienced diesel technicians.
  • Diesel or automotive technical training is preferred.
  • Knowledge of diesel engines, mechanical and electrical systems, air brakes, and aftertreatment systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read service manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • ASE certifications, OEM training, and CDL are a plus.
  • Ability to lift 50–75 lbs. and work in typical heavy-duty shop conditions.
