Reports To: MSL Director – Medical Science Liaison Team Lead

About This Role:

The Senior Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is a field-facing role focused on developing and maintaining professional clinical/scientific relationships with external medical experts including pediatric neurologists, neuromuscular specialists, and neurologists, who are involved in the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

As the clinical and medical expert on the company’s products and therapeutic areas, our MSLs build long-term relationships and establish rapport with clinicians in hospitals, clinics, and academic centers through highly scientific product and disease state discussions that support the safe and effective utilization of ITF’s therapies.

As a senior member of the field medical team, this role will not only cultivate key scientific relationships but also provide strategic insights across Medical Affairs initiatives. This individual will play a key role in contributing to ad boards, speaker training, and clinical insights projects, as well as mentoring peers as appropriate, and play an active role in advancing Medical Affairs priorities and strategy

The ideal candidate brings a strong foundation in rare neuromuscular diseases, with a preference for prior experience in DMD.

What You'll Do:

  • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with pediatric neurologists, neuromuscular specialists, and other key medical experts at major care centers
  • Engage in scientific exchange with healthcare professionals around clinical and research data, while capturing field insights to drive the evolution of strategic plans
  • Deliver fair-balanced and objective clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare professionals (HCPs), payors, and patient organizations in response to unsolicited requests for information on the use of company products.
  • Serve as a core liaison to key institutions, supporting ongoing and future clinical studies, investigator-initiated trials, and scientific collaborations.
  • Attend national and regional medical meetings and symposia to engage in discussion and cultivate professional relationships
  • Collaborate with external medical experts on medical affairs initiatives, including publications, medical education opportunities, and training as appropriate
  • Assist in the preparation and execution of scientific materials for marketed and pipeline assets, including delivering compelling presentations, assisting with slide preparation/review, and facilitating interactive discussion groups
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in compliance with regulatory, quality, and ethical standards

Who You Are:

You are an experienced professional with a passion for building and sustaining trusted clinical and scientific relationships with external medical experts. You have a demonstrated track record of designing and delivering engaging, informative training programs that keep teams aligned with the latest medical insights and industry best practices. You bring an analytical mindset and excellent problem-solving skills, allowing you to adapt quickly to changing priorities and deadlines. With a solid understanding of the pharmaceutical delivery process, you consistently operate in a compliant and ethical manner within a highly regulated industry.

Required Skills:

  • Advanced scientific degree, PhD, PharmD, MD, DNP, MSN, MS, or Genetic Counselor
  • Minimum of 8+ years of related and progressive experience in the field including at least 5 years in the MSL role
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate complex scientific data to healthcare professionals
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, a personal automobile, and active vehicle insurance policy in good standing
  • Routine entry to hospitals and other medical facilities is required. Must be able to comply with facility-specific vendor credentialing requirements, including training, background and drug checks, and proof of immunizations, as a condition of entry
  • Role requires travel daily to/from customer accounts via driving and/or flying long distances
  • This position requires overnight and weekend travel, up to 75%. In addition to travelling within the territory, overnight and/or weekend travel outside of the assigned territory is required as needed to support the team

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience supporting Duchenne muscular dystrophy, neuromuscular disorders, genetics, rare and/or orphan products
  • Experience supporting rare or ultra-rare disease therapeutics across clinical development and commercial stages is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex and/or challenging scientific data into successful trainings, presentations, and/or face-to-face exchanges with medical, scientific, KOLs, and stakeholders
  • Experience thriving in a small, rapidly growing biotech or start-up environment with a solutions-oriented approach
  • Demonstrated and hands-on experience building strategic, long-term partnerships, while developing tailored engagement plans that align with business and medical objectives
  • Ability to work independently in a field-based role while collaborating effectively within a Medical Affairs team
  • Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills
  • Ability to support and prioritize multiple projects, including working on and leading projects and/or initiatives aligned to US Medical strategy, objectives, and tactics
  • Experience supporting high-cost products that are distributed through a specialty pharmacy

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
