You'll work closely with residents, contractors, compliance teams, property services, asset management colleagues, consultants, and other stakeholders to help maintain safe and compliant homes.

About the Role

As a Fire Safety Surveyor, you'll carry out inspections, review fire safety requirements, identify remedial works, and support the delivery of fire safety improvement programmes across Southern Housing's property portfolio.

You'll provide technical advice, monitor contractor performance, and help ensure works comply with relevant legislation, standards, specifications, and internal procedures.

What you'll be doing:

  • Preparing scopes of work, specifications, schedules, and technical recommendations
  • Reviewing fire risk assessment actions and supporting their delivery

  • Inspecting completed works to ensure quality, compliance, and value for money
  • Providing technical fire safety advice to colleagues, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Working closely with compliance, asset management, repairs, and property teams
  • Supporting programmes relating to compartmentation, fire stopping, fire doors, alarms, and other fire safety measures
  • Managing contractor performance and addressing quality or compliance concerns
  • Maintaining accurate records of surveys, inspections, actions, and completed works
  • Supporting the prioritisation of works based on risk and regulatory requirements
  • Ensuring works are completed in accordance with relevant fire safety legislation and guidance
  • Supporting resident communication where fire safety works affect occupied homes
  • Managing multiple projects and workstreams across a varied property portfolio
  • Identifying technical issues and escalating significant risks appropriately
  • Supporting audits, compliance reviews, and assurance activity
  • Contributing to continuous improvement across fire safety and building compliance processes
  • Working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver safe and compliant outcomes

Requirements

We're looking for an experienced, technically confident, and detail-focused Fire Safety Surveyor with a strong background in residential property, compliance, and building safety.

  • Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation and relevant industry standards
  • Experience interpreting and progressing actions from Fire Risk Assessments

  • Ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate remedial action
  • Strong project and workload management skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Experience working with residents in occupied properties
  • Ability to manage contractors and challenge poor workmanship where necessary
  • Experience working with housing associations, local authorities, or public-sector property services would be advantageous
  • Relevant surveying, construction, fire safety, or building-related qualification would be highly desirable

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
