About the Role

As HR Business Partner, you'll provide professional advice and support on a broad range of people management matters. You'll help managers address complex employee relations issues, apply HR policies consistently and develop practical solutions that meet service needs.

The role requires sound professional judgement, strong relationship-building skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations with confidence, discretion and fairness.

What you'll be doing:

  • Providing professional HR advice and guidance to managers on employee relations, workforce issues and the application of HR policies and procedures.

  • Contributing to the development and review of HR policies and procedures, helping to maintain clear and consistent working practices.
  • Supporting attendance, employee wellbeing and performance initiatives, working collaboratively with relevant colleagues and services.
  • Maintaining accurate, confidential case records and managing competing priorities to progress work within agreed timescales.
  • Promoting equality, diversity and inclusion throughout HR advice, decision-making and service delivery.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement within the HR service by identifying opportunities to strengthen processes and manager support.

Requirements

We're looking for a proactive, organised and solutions-focused HR professional with strong employee relations experience and the ability to build effective relationships across a complex organisation.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience working as an HR Business Partner, Senior HR Adviser or in a comparable generalist HR role.
  • Experience advising on complex employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability and absence matters.
  • Sound knowledge of employment law and HR practice, with the ability to translate this into clear, practical advice.
  • Experience supporting organisational change, restructuring, workforce planning or employee consultation.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, including the ability to challenge constructively and explain sensitive issues clearly.
  • Experience working with trade unions or employee representatives, ideally within local government or another public-sector organisation.
  • A CIPD qualification or equivalent relevant professional experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret workforce information and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records and work independently while contributing to a wider team.
  • A professional and discreet approach to handling confidential employee information.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK and the ability to provide employment references and complete the required pre-employment checks.

Why Apply

  • Opportunity to support people management across Nottinghamshire County Council.
  • Varied role combining employee relations, organisational change and workforce support.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
