Support Households to Move On Successfully from Temporary Accommodation

We're recruiting experienced Temporary Accommodation Move On Officers to join the London Borough of Lambeth, supporting households living in temporary accommodation to move into more suitable and sustainable housing.

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in housing options, homelessness, temporary accommodation, tenancy sustainment, resettlement, or local authority housing services.

You'll work closely with residents, landlords, housing providers, support services, internal Council teams, and external agencies to identify suitable move-on options, reduce barriers to rehousing, and help households progress into settled accommodation.

About the Role

As a Temporary Accommodation Move On Officer, you'll manage a caseload of households living in temporary accommodation and provide practical, housing-focused support to help them secure appropriate move-on options.

You'll assess individual circumstances, identify suitable housing pathways, coordinate with landlords and housing providers, and support residents through the transition into more sustainable accommodation.

What you'll be doing:

  • Managing a caseload of households currently living in temporary accommodation
  • Developing personalised move-on plans based on individual housing needs and circumstances
  • Supporting residents to identify and secure suitable housing options
  • Providing advice on private rented accommodation, social housing, supported housing, and other move-on pathways
  • Working with landlords and letting agents to identify suitable accommodation opportunities
  • Supporting households through the rehousing process, including applications, affordability checks, and tenancy arrangements
  • Helping residents overcome barriers to move-on, including financial, practical, or support-related issues
  • Working closely with Housing Options, Homelessness, Benefits, Social Care, and support services
  • Supporting tenancy sustainment by ensuring households understand their responsibilities and available support
  • Monitoring progress against move-on plans and taking proactive action where cases are delayed
  • Carrying out regular contact with residents to maintain engagement and progress
  • Undertaking affordability assessments and helping residents understand housing costs
  • Supporting residents with access to benefits, grants, deposits, or rent-in-advance schemes where applicable
  • Maintaining accurate case records and ensuring all actions are documented appropriately
  • Liaising with landlords, housing associations, support providers, and other external partners
  • Identifying safeguarding concerns and escalating them appropriately
  • Supporting households at risk of homelessness recurrence
  • Working to reduce the length of time households remain in temporary accommodation
  • Contributing to performance targets relating to move-on activity and temporary accommodation reduction
  • Providing clear, professional, and empathetic communication throughout the rehousing process

Requirements

We're looking for proactive, resilient, and customer-focused housing professionals with strong case management skills and experience supporting households with complex housing needs.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience working within homelessness, temporary accommodation, housing options, resettlement, or tenancy sustainment
  • Experience managing a housing-related caseload
  • Good knowledge of housing options and move-on pathways
  • Understanding of homelessness legislation and local authority housing duties
  • Experience working with private landlords, letting agents, housing associations, or supported housing providers
  • Experience helping households secure and sustain accommodation
  • Strong knowledge of affordability, benefits, and housing-related financial support
  • Experience working with vulnerable households and customers with complex needs
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build effective relationships with residents and partner agencies
  • Experience handling challenging or sensitive conversations
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and competing priorities
  • Excellent written record-keeping and case-note skills
  • Good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience within a local authority housing service would be advantageous
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Ability to provide three years of references/work history
  • Ability to complete a Criminal Convictions Declaration
  • Ability to sign a Confidentiality Agreement

  • Gain valuable local authority homelessness and housing experience

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
