Role Overview

As a Controls Project Manager for our HVAC division, you will serve as the on-site leader for assigned controls projects, providing overall construction management and project execution oversight from pre-construction planning through commissioning and closeout. You will coordinate internal teams, subcontractors, field resources, and customers to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements.

This role is responsible for driving project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, cost control, change management, risk mitigation, quality assurance, and construction documentation throughout the project lifecycle. You will lead project meetings, manage construction workflows, monitor progress against milestones, and proactively resolve field issues while maintaining strong customer relationships.

Success in this position requires balancing customer satisfaction with project profitability while ensuring consistent adherence to company processes, construction best practices, and project management standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate day-to-day execution with subcontractors, electrical installers, technicians, designers, and administrative support as needed.
  • Manage project financial performance, including costs, billings, collections, cash flow, and gross margin.
  • Maintain regular communication with customers throughout all phases of the project and support the development of long-term relationships.
  • Review contractual scope, evaluate field directives, bulletins, and schedule changes, and pursue change orders when additional work is identified.
  • Coordinate procurement activities, including material selection, ordering, vendor pricing, availability, and delivery schedules.
  • Oversee loading, device verification, system checkout, and commissioning of system controllers and related equipment.
  • Validate complete system functionality, resolve issues, and ensure the final installation performs to project requirements.
  • Prepare accurate as-built records, commissioning documentation, manuals, and warranty documentation.
  • Provide site-specific training for owners and operators on system operation and use.
  • Attend job progress meetings, report project status, and provide forecasts for revenue, costs, and margin as required.
  • Ensure work is completed in compliance with applicable safety standards and legal requirements.

How You Will Do It

  • Own each project with accountability, safety, and integrity, making sure commitments are met and work is completed to the required standard.
  • Stay close to the jobsite and the customer by actively managing communication, resolving issues quickly, and removing barriers to progress.
  • Use disciplined planning and clear follow-through to keep scope, schedule, cost, and quality aligned from start to finish.
  • Improve every day through candid problem-solving, accurate documentation, and timely escalation of risks or changes.
  • Win as one team by working collaboratively with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and Johnson Controls colleagues.
  • Translate technical details into practical updates for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Balance customer expectations with project financial results by tracking billings, collections, and budget performance closely.
  • Support crew development through coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance when needed.
  • Follow established Johnson Controls standards for installation, commissioning, and field execution.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
