Role Overview
As a Controls Systems Technician, you will perform assigned system commissioning using Johnson Controls configuration and commissioning tools. This field-based role supports customers by troubleshooting basic HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls issues, responding to warranty calls, and helping buildings operate efficiently through reliable service and clear communication.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform assigned system commissioning using Johnson Controls configuration and commissioning tools.
- Load system-level controller software.
- Perform basic commissioning and system diagnostics from system-level controllers to end devices such as sensors and actuators.
- Troubleshoot and resolve basic HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls problems.
- Respond to basic warranty calls and provide service-related support at customer sites.
- Calibrate systems using basic electronic test equipment.
- Complete commissioning documentation, time sheets, expense reports, on-site documentation, and as-built updates.
- Communicate job progress, issues, arrival, and completion status with management, contractors, and customers.
- Provide recommendations and solutions to help improve facility efficiency and support quoting needs.
- Follow all safety standards and attend required safety training.
How You Will Do It
- Own each assignment safely, accurately, and with integrity from arrival through closeout.
- Stay close to the work by verifying issues at the controller, device, and system level before acting.
- Keep customers, contractors, and management informed with clear updates, documentation, and follow-through.
- Look for practical improvements during each visit and turn service findings into useful recommendations.
- Work as one team by sharing information, asking for support when needed, and using internal resources well.
- Approach every job with a continuous-improvement mindset and resolve issues with candor and problem-solving.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated technical aptitude.
- Basic computer skills.
- Able to use hand and power tools such as drills and saws.
- Attention to detail.
- Effective communication and listening skills.
- Basic knowledge of HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls systems.
- Ability to use basic electronic test equipment for calibration and diagnostics.
- Ability to meet any local licensing requirements for mounting and termination of low-voltage devices, where applicable.
Nice to Have
- Two years of experience installing electronic and/or mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of HVAC systems.
- Experience with low-voltage or 120-volt wiring.
- Experience with building automation or controls commissioning.
