The posting

At Johnson Controls, we support smart, healthy, and sustainable buildings across a wide range of industries. In this role, you will help deliver fire division projects that keep fire alarm, security, and communications systems moving smoothly from planning through closeout.

Role Overview

As a Fire Project Manager 1, you will lead complex installation projects in commercial, educational, healthcare, industrial, and military facilities. You will be responsible for setting up local project offices, defining scope and risk, coordinating resources, and managing schedule, cost, safety, quality, and customer expectations to deliver projects on time and within scope.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead fire alarm, security, and communications installation projects from kickoff through closeout.
  • Set up local project offices and define scope, risk, project methodology, and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate project progression through design, permits, material delivery, labor scheduling, and field installation.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project plans to support schedule and budget commitments.
  • Conduct Work in Progress meetings and provide clear project updates to management and customers.
  • Manage schedule, cost, safety, quality, and customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure projects are closed on time, within scope, and aligned with customer expectations.
  • Follow published codes, standards, unique project specifications, AHJ requirements, and departmental/SOX procedures.
  • Coordinate change orders and support margin improvement on every job.

How You Will Do It

  • Stay close to the work by keeping design, permitting, materials, labor, and field installation aligned from start to finish.
  • Own outcomes with accountability by managing safety, quality, schedule, cost, and closeout with clear follow-through.
  • Use Work in Progress meetings and project reviews to surface issues early, communicate candidly, and remove obstacles before they affect delivery.
  • Collaborate with customers, field teams, and internal partners as one team so priorities stay aligned and decisions move the job forward.
  • Look for continuous improvement on every project by tightening processes, capturing lessons learned, and improving margin where possible.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certificate or diploma in Fire & Life Safety, Electrical/Electronic, Security, or a related field.
  • 5 years of installation experience in fire, electrical, or security systems.
  • Ability to obtain Project Management Professional certification within two years of employment.
  • NICET Level II certification to be obtained within one year of employment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Excel and Project.
  • Ability to create Excel spreadsheets, reference data in other spreadsheets, and create macros.
  • Availability for frequent local travel.

Nice to Have

  • Certification in Fire Alarm Systems.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
