The posting

Join us as we work to unlock the value of offshore wind! JERA Nex bp is a new joint venture between JERA, Japan’s largest power generation company, and bp, one of the world’s leading energy companies. Established to unlock the potential of offshore wind across the globe, our talented team, exciting pipeline and solid capital commitment give us the potential to become one of the world’s most successful offshore wind companies.

We entered the market with a portfolio of operational and development assets, alongside the resources, capabilities and resilience to deliver offshore wind energy at scale.

Why this role matters

At JERA Nex bp safety is more than a business priority; it is a core value and mindset; nothing is more important to us than the health, safety and security of our workforce and the communities where we work. Our commitment to health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) is embedded in everything we do. As a growing offshore wind business, developing and operating world-class renewable energy assets globally we are fully committed to having no accidents, ensuring the health & safety of our employees, preventing harm to those who may be affected by our activities, and protecting the environment where we work. Our ambition extends beyond compliance, we aim to lead by example building a safer, more sustainable and resilient future for all.

The purpose of this role is to support safe, compliant and efficient operations across four operational offshore wind farms in Belgium, by providing visible field support, expert HSSE advice, independent challenge and practical assurance to operational leaders, OEMs and contractors.

In this role you will:

  • Act as an HSSE advisor to the O&M leadership team in Ostend, providing visible field support, independent challenge and expert guidance to ensure safe, compliant and efficient operations.
  • Support delivery of the O&M HSSE plan, proactively influencing OEM, marine and other contractor HSSE plans to ensure priorities, controls and improvement actions are aligned.
  • Lead the development, delivery and follow-up of HSSE improvement plans, engaging operational leaders, supervisors, contractors and the wider HSSE team as required.
  • Conduct regular field verification and assurance activities across offshore and onshore operations to assess compliance, verify critical controls and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Verify the implementation and effectiveness of critical controls associated with fatality and serious injury risks, including working at height, lifting operations, electrical safety, marine transfers, vessel operations and contractor activities.
  • Provide HSSE oversight and assurance of OEMs, marine contractors and service providers, including participation in contractor reviews, inspections, audits and performance improvement activities.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the HSSE risk profile across the O&M assets, escalating or intervening where risk levels, control effectiveness or performance trends require action.
  • Coach leaders and supervisors in safety leadership, operational discipline, learning from events, effective risk management and creating a strong speak-up culture.
  • Plan and participate in regular offshore and onshore site visits to test the effectiveness of safety programmes, engage with frontline teams and verify that controls are working in practice.
  • Support a learning culture by ensuring incidents, near misses and high-potential events are reported, investigated and translated into effective learning and corrective actions.
  • Monitor, analyse and report leading and lagging HSSE metrics in line with company standards, regulatory requirements and operational performance routines.
  • Support emergency response preparedness through scenario planning, drills, exercises, training and follow-up of actions arising from exercises or real events.
  • Support environmental compliance and environmental risk management, including pollution prevention, waste management, permit compliance and environmental incident investigation.
  • Support identification and management of major hazard and operational integrity risks, including electrical systems, offshore access, marine operations and emergency response capability.
  • Support Control of Work by advising on minimum requirements, risk assessment quality, control selection, mitigation measures and task verification.

To be successful in the role you will bring:

  • Degree in a relevant HSSE, engineering or science discipline, or equivalent practical experience, together with recognised occupational health and safety professional membership or equivalent competence.
  • At least five years’ experience delivering HSSE in offshore wind, offshore energy, marine operations or another high-hazard operational environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of offshore wind O&M activities, including contractor-led maintenance, marine logistics, offshore access and operational risk management.
  • Practical experience in contractor HSSE management, field assurance, inspections, audits and verification of critical controls.
  • Working knowledge of Control of Work, permit to work, risk assessment, method statements, lifting operations, electrical safety and working at height controls.
  • Experience supporting incident investigations, learning from events and delivery of corrective actions through to closure.
  • Familiarity with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management system principles, and the ability to apply company standards and Belgian regulatory requirements in an operational environment.
  • Strong influencing and coaching skills, with the confidence to constructively challenge operational leaders, supervisors and contractors.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple assets, prioritise risk-based activity and communicate clearly with frontline teams and senior stakeholders.

Role clarity:

The role is expected to balance practical field presence with performance management, regulatory compliance, contractor assurance and support to operational leaders across the Belgian O&M portfolio.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
