Postdoctoral Researcher in the Field of Environmental Organic Analytical Chemistry #

The Department of Environmental Chemistry ( Uchem) has a vacancy for a

There are a multitude of organic pollutants in the aquatic environment which might impact aquatic ecosystems, yet current monitoring programs are very limited. Suspect and non-target screening using high-resolution mass spectrometry combined with chromatography, appropriate ionization and computational tools for data evaluation enables a more comprehensive characterization of the vast universe of organic pollutants.  We are looking for someone who wants to develop non-target workflows further by improving analytical and data mining methods and apply them to environmental samples. Candidates can bring in their own ideas and contribute to other projects in the department. Current main topics of the group are analysis of polar compounds and their transformation products in various environmental matrices using LC-HRMS/MS and linking of the exposure to effects via machine-learning based hazard prediction and risk assessment. The postdoctoral researcher will have the opportunity to contribute to a practical course on organic trace analysis of ETH Zurich and to supervise master students in support of the research program. The location is Dübendorf near Zurich. The position is funded for two years.  We encourage applications from outstanding and highly motivated candidates with a doctoral degree in environmental or analytical chemistry, environmental engineering and a strong interest in data sciences and interdisciplinary research. Previous hands-on experience with high resolution mass spectrometry or/and data sciences would be an advantage.  The successful candidate is a creative individual with strong interest to work in a team, communication skills and excellent time management abilities. Analytical thinking, problem-solving attitude, flexibility, ability to work independently and communicate clearly are all essential for this position. Candidates are expected to have excellent academic records and be fluent in written and spoken English.  At Eawag, we have a working environment in which people with different experiences, strengths, and perspectives can fully contribute and further develop. Here, you can help us advance! We promote genuine participation, exchange, and mutual understanding. We create structures that enable the compatibility of work and other areas of life, such as care work, and continuously make efforts to reduce barriers.  Do you have specific requirements regarding the application process or the position, or do you need additional information? Talk to us about it-we will be happy to support you with possible flexible workplace, working hours, and job design solutions. For further information please visit our website about Eawag as well as our conditions of employment.  Applications can be submitted by 15 November 2026 or until the position is filled and should include a cover letter giving a description of their motivation to apply and highlighting their relevant experience and specific interests within the non-target screening field, curriculum vitae, copies of academic qualifications, a summary of their PhD thesis, and the names (with Email addresses and phone numbers) of at least two potential referees.  For further information, please contact E-Mail schreiben.  We look forward to receiving your application. Please send it through this webpage, as any other way of applying will not be considered. A click on the link below will take you directly to the application form.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
