* Prendre part au processus d'élaboration des rapports nationaux destinés à l'ONU et de suivi des recommandations, en particulier en contribuant à l'élaboration et à la mise à jour d'instruments de coordination (banque de données, site internet) * Traiter les demandes d'autres services, donner des renseignements sur des points de droit et participer à la rédaction d'avis de droit * Participer à la rédaction en français de prises de position destinées à la Cour européenne des droits de l'homme et aux comités onusiens (CAT, CERD, CEDAW, CRC, CED) et d'un aperçu périodique de la jurisprudence de la Cour * Contrôler la conformité de projets législatifs avec les droits de l'homme

L'Office fédéral de la justice est le pôle d'excellence juridique de la Confédération. Il élabore des projets d'actes législatifs dans les domaines du droit public, du droit privé et du droit pénal. Il assure en outre l'accompagnement législatif de tous les projets d'actes normatifs émanant de la Confédération. Il œuvre également au plan international.

L'unité Protection internationale des droits de l'homme traite les questions juridiques relatives à ce domaine. Elle exerce son activité au niveau international, dans le cadre du Conseil de l'Europe et des Nations Unies, de même qu'au niveau national, lors de la mise en œuvre en droit suisse des instruments internationaux de protection des droits de l'homme.
