- управление одноковшовым экскаватором при производстве вскрышных, добычных, переэкскавационных, зачистных, отвальных и погрузочно-разгрузочных работ; - разработка горной массы и грунт; - перемещение топлива и различных материалов на складах, на транспортные средства, в отвал; - перемещение горной массы, грунта на борт карьера или в отвал; - планировка забоя, верхней и нижней площадок уступа; - перемещение экскаватора в процессе работы, регулирование ходовых механизмов.

Среднее профессиональное образование - программы подготовки квалифицированных рабочих, служащих. Требования к опыту и практической работы: нет. Наличие удостоверения, подтверждающего право управления экскаватором соответствующей категории. Наличие удостоверения о присвоении квалификационной группы по электробезопасности (при необходимости). Прохождение обязательных предварительных и периодических медицинских осмотров. Прохождение обучения мерам пожарной безопасности. Прохождения обучения и инструктажа по охране труда, проверки знаний требований охраны труда и промышленной безопасности (последнее при необходимости). Требованием для получения более высокого тарифного разряд является наличие опыта работы не менее одного года по профессии с более низким (предшествующим) тарифным разрядом и освоение программ повышения квалификации рабочих, служащих или переподготовки рабочих, служащих. Машинисты, занятые управлением и обслуживанием строительных машин и механизмов, должны знать слесарное дело и тарифицироваться по профессии "слесарь строительный" на один разряд ниже основной профессии. Машинист экскаватора 7-го разряд допускается к управлению одноковшовым экскаватором с ковшом емкостью свыше 1,25 до 4 м3 и роторным экскаватором производительностью свыше 2500 до 4500 м3/ч. Машинист экскаватора 8-го разряд допускается к управлению одноковшовым экскаватором с ковшом емкостью свыше 4 м3 и роторным экскаватором производительностью свыше 4500 м3/ч.
