Оказание доврачебной помощи. Фельдшер проводит амбулаторный приём, выезжает на дом к пациентам, оказывает неотложную помощь при острых состояниях, травмах, несчастных случаях. В пределах своей компетенции он ставит предварительный диагноз, назначает обследования и лечение, контролирует его эффективность. При необходимости он направляет пациента к узкому специалисту в районную больницу или определяет показания для госпитализации и организует транспортировку. Профилактическая и санитарно-просветительская работа. Фельдшер участвует в диспансеризации и профилактических осмотрах населения. Проводит вакцинацию (взрослого и детского населения) с оформлением документации и наблюдением за поствакцинальными реакциями. Ведёт санитарно-просветительскую работу: рассказывает людям о факторах риска заболеваний и способах их предупреждения. Диспансерное наблюдение. Он динамически наблюдает за пациентами с хроническими заболеваниями, за беременными женщинами, детьми, инвалидами, а также за лицами с высоким риском развития заболеваний. При необходимости корректирует терапию и проводит профилактику осложнений. Противоэпидемическая работа. Фельдшер выявляет инфекционных больных и контактных лиц, проводит обходы по эпидемиологическим показаниям. При выявлении инфекционных, паразитарных или профессиональных заболеваний, массовых отравлений он информирует территориальное управление санитарно-эпидемиологической службы. Также в его задачи может входить текущий санитарный контроль за детскими и подростковыми учреждениями, коммунальными, пищевыми и другими объектами на обслуживаемой территории, надзор за водоснабжением и очисткой населённых пунктов. Выполнение врачебных назначений. Фельдшер реализует назначения лечащего врача. Работа с документацией. Он ведёт медицинскую документацию: заполняет карты, журналы учёта, выдаёт справки, направления, листки нетрудоспособности (при этом важно помнить: фельдшер вправе выдавать листки нетрудоспособности только на срок до 10 дней). Организационные задачи. Иногда фельдшер выполняет функции заведующего ФАП: руководит работой другого персонала (акушерок, патронажных медсестёр, младшего медперсонала). Также он может координировать работу в составе фельдшерско-врачебной бригады, когда на ФАП приезжают узкие специалисты. Дополнительные задачи. В зависимости от ситуации фельдшер может участвовать в массовых обследованиях (учащихся, работающих граждан, пенсионеров), проводить санитарно-гигиенические мероприятия.
