Обеспечивать безопасное движение поездов, автомобилей и других транспортных средств по переезду. Регулировать движение по переезду всех видов транспорта при производстве маневровых работ. Прекращать движение по переезду транспортных средств и закрывать электрошлагбаум перед приближением поезда. Осуществлять контроль за исправной работой автоматических устройств, заградительной светофорной и звуковой сигнализации, радио- и телефонной связи и других устройств на переезде. Выявлять и исправлять неисправности и нарушения в работе оборудования переезда, которые могут быть устранены силами дежурного по переезду. Ограждать переезд и подавать установленные сигналы. Наблюдать за состоянием проходящих поездов, принимать меры к остановке поезда при обнаружении неисправностей в подвижном составе и нарушений в погрузке грузов, угрожающих безопасности движения (колеса, идущие юзом или издающие сильные удары из-за ползунов, пожар, горение букс, угроза падения с поезда человека или груза и др.). Осуществлять контроль за исправным состоянием стрелочных переводов, электроприводов шлагбаумов, заградительной светофорной и звуковой сигнализации, осветительных приборов, радио- и телефонной связи. Производить очистку стрелочных переводов и элементов переезда (направляющие столбики и желоба) от снега, льда, грязи, мусора и сорной растительности.

Профессиональное образование или подготовка по специальности "Дежурный по переезду" - приветствуется. Лицо, годное по состоянию здоровья для работы, связанной с движением поездов. Опыт работы по профессии, связанной с движением поездов.
