Осуществляет таможенное оформление экспортно-импортных операций. Это ключевая задача: выбирает нужную таможенную процедуру (экспорт, импорт, временный ввоз и т.п.) и оформляет все необходимые документы. Оформляет грузовые таможенные декларации разных типов для перевозок в международных сообщениях. Проверяет документы. Убеждается, что перевозочные и сопроводительные бумаги заполнены правильно, в них нет пробелов и всё ли в комплекте. Начисляет таможенные платежи и сборы. Рассчитывает суммы, опираясь на актуальные нормативные акты (постановления, приказы таможенных органов). Работает с дополнительными документами. Оформляет и получает в таможне лицензии, разрешения и другие бумаги, которые нужны для конкретной операции. Готовит ответы на запросы таможенных органов и ведёт соответствующую деловую переписку. Организует работу с таможенными складами. Если груз помещают на склад временного хранения, декларант оформляет нужные документы учёта. Взаимодействует с другими подразделениями. Выдает справки и оперативную информацию отделам предприятия (например, логистам, снабженцам) по вопросам таможенных тарифов и оформления планируемых поставок. Ведёт учёт. Фиксирует информацию: вносит данные в автоматизированные системы управления (АСУ) или передаёт их в таможенный отдел, ведёт оперативный учёт производственных показателей, перевозочной и сопроводительной документации. Выполняет поручения руководителя. В том числе может привлекаться к решению смежных задач.

Необходимо знание технологических процессов металлургического машиностроения, включая методы расчёта перспектив развития отрасли.
