1.Работа с первичной документацией о результатах патрулирования лесов в целях охраны от нарушений в области лесного законодательства и по оформлению фактов незаконного использования лесов. 2.Осуществление контроля за выполнением лицами, использующими леса, условий заключенных договоров лесными участками, купли-продажи лесных насаждений. 3.Организация контроля охраны лесов от загрязнения при выполнении работ в рамках использования лесов. 4.Организация контроля охраны редких и находящихся под угрозой исчезновения растений. 5.Проверка соблюдений правил использования лесов для осуществления научно-исследовательской, образовательной, рекреационной деятельности. 6.Проверка соблюдения правил использования лесов для строительства, эксплуатации, реконструкции объектов разного назначения. 7.Проверка соблюдения правил проведения лесопатологических обследований и приемка лесозащитных работ. 8.Организация выполнения совместных работ по охране леса. 9.Организация работ по защите эксплуатационных, резервных, защитных, ценных лесов. 10.Проверка соблюдения юридическими и физическими лицами правил санитарной безопасности в лесах и др.

На должность инженер по охране и защите леса принимается лицо, имеющее высшее образование бакалавриат или высшее образование - магистратура, без требования к практическому опыту работы. На должность инженер по охране и защите леса II категории принимается лицо, имеющее высшее образование бакалавриат, при стаже не менее трех лет в должности инженер по охране и защите леса или высшее образование магистратура, при стаже не менее одного в должности инженер по охране и защите леса. На должность инженер по охране и защите леса I категории принимается лицо, имеющее высшее образование бакалавриат, при стаже не менее пяти лет работы по более низкой категории или высшее образование магистратура, при стаже не менее трех лет работы по более низкой категории. Допускается получение образования путем профессиональной переподготовки на базе бакалавриата.
