Организация и контроль работ. Распределяет задания между мастерами и бригадами, контролирует соблюдение технологической последовательности, проверяет, соответствуют ли выполняемые работы проектной документации, строительным нормам и правилам. Материально-техническое обеспечение. Составляет заявки на строительные машины, транспорт, средства механизации, материалы, конструкции, детали, инструменты и инвентарь. Организует их доставку на объект, приёмку (проверяет количество и качество), ведёт учёт расхода. Иногда прораб берёт на себя и организацию приобъектного склада с последующей охраной материальных ценностей. Работа с документацией. Ведёт журналы производства работ, оформляет акты скрытых работ и другую исполнительную документацию. Участвует в сдаче заказчику законченных объектов или отдельных этапов. Взаимодействие с подрядчиками и заказчиком. Готовит фронт работ для субподрядных организаций и участвует в приёмке их выполненных работ. Согласовывает изменения в проекте, взаимодействует с представителями заказчика, технадзора и авторского надзора. Поддержание дисциплины и развитие команды. Следит за соблюдением производственной и трудовой дисциплины, вносит предложения о применении дисциплинарных взысканий к нарушителям. Организует работу по повышению квалификации работников. Оптимизация процессов. Ищет возможности повысить уровень механизации, внедрить новую технику, совершенствовать организацию труда, снизить стоимость работ и экономно расходовать материалы. Распространяет передовой опыт и методы труда. Решение оперативных задач. Если возникла задержка (например, опоздала поставка материалов), прораб оперативно корректирует план: перераспределяет бригады, решает, как восполнить запасы, чтобы не сорвать сроки.

Читать и анализировать проектную, рабочую и организационно-технологическую документацию, проверять её комплектность и достаточность. Определять последовательность работ, рассчитывать их объёмы, разрабатывать и корректировать планы. Распределять задания между бригадами, звеньями и отдельными работниками с учётом их специализации и квалификации. Контролировать ход работ: проверять соответствие технологического процесса и результата проекту, нормам, техническим условиям. Работать с документацией: оформлять наряды-допуски на работы повышенной опасности, исполнительную и учётную документацию, представлять сведения в информационную модель объекта (если она есть) в электронном виде. Выявлять вредные и опасные факторы на участке, определять необходимый перечень средств защиты работников. Оформлять документы по охране труда, пожарной безопасности и охране окружающей среды. Определять перечень разрешений, необходимых для этапа работ, и готовить обосновывающую документацию для их получения.
