Проведение исследований, выполняет лабораторные анализы в соответствии со стандартами медицинской помощи. Обеспечение качества, организует и проводит контроль качества на всех этапах: преаналитическом (подготовка пациента, взятие биоматериала), аналитическом (непосредственно исследование) и постаналитическом (интерпретация, оформление заключения). Внедрение новых методов, участвует в освоении и внедрении в практику новых, разрешённых методов исследований и лабораторного оборудования. Консультирование,консультирует врачей-клиницистов на этапе назначения исследований и помогает им интерпретировать полученные данные. Также он может давать рекомендации медицинскому персоналу и пациентам по правилам взятия, транспортировки и хранения биоматериала. Анализ и интерпретация результатов, проводит комплексную оценку результатов (в том числе в динамике), сопоставляет их с референтными интервалами, выявляет противоречия, проводит лабораторную верификацию диагноза, на основе этого составляет клинико-лабораторное заключение. Работа с персоналом, руководит и контролирует деятельность среднего и младшего медицинского персонала лаборатории. Разработка стандартных операционных процедур (СОП), участвует в создании СОП для различных этапов клинико-лабораторного исследования. Документационное обеспечение, ведёт необходимую медицинскую и учётно-отчётную документацию (в том числе в электронном виде), планирует свою работу, анализирует её результаты, готовит ежемесячные отчёты, участвует в составлении годовых отчётов лаборатории.

Соблюдение врачебной тайны, принципов врачебной этики и деонтологии в работе с пациентами (их законными представителями), коллегами. Дисциплинированность, коммуникабельность, ответственность.
