Организует выполнение научно-исследовательских работ, предусмотренных в государственном задании, выбирает методы и средства проведения этих работ. Разрабатывает проекты перспективных и годовых планов работы лаборатории, проекты технических заданий, методических и рабочих программ, технико - экономических обоснований, прогнозы развития соответствующей области знаний. Осуществляет научное руководство работами по развитию, совершенствованию и оптимизации комплексного мониторинга состояния экосистемы оз. Байкал. Представляет на рассмотрение ученого совета института научные отчеты о работах, выполненных лабораторией. Обеспечивает практическое применение результатов исследований, авторский надзор и оказание технической помощи при их внедрении. Участвует в подборе, аттестации и оценке деятельности работников лаборатории, повышении их квалификации, представляет руководству института предложения по оплате их труда с учетом личного вклада в общие результаты работ и количественной оценки эффективности деятельности сотрудника в баллах в соответствии с индивидуальным рейтингом.

Прием на работу осуществляется на конкурсной основе! Требования к квалификации заведующего лабораторией . Ученая степень доктора или кандидата наук. Наличие научных трудов. Опыт научной и организаторской работы не менее 5 лет. Наличие за последние 5 лет: не менее 7-и научных трудов (монографий, статей в рецензируемых журналах, патентов на изобретения или полезные модели, авторских свидетельств о государственной регистрации баз данных, программ для ЭВМ, зарегистрированных в установленном порядке научных отчетов, информационно-аналитических материалов, нормативно-методических документов), включая публикации, индексируемые в базе РИНЦ (российский индекс научного цитирования) и в международных базах Web of Science и/или Scopus; цитированных работ, опубликованных за последние 5 лет, в базе РИНЦ, а также в международных базах Web of Science и/или Scopus; участия в выполнении научно-исследовательских работ по государственному заданию, по российским или международным контрактам (договорам, соглашениям, грантам); актов внедрения разработок; научных докладов на общероссийских или международных научных конференциях (симпозиумах).
