Врач должен уверенно владеть целым набором навыков и знаний. Среди ключевых умений: Собирать жалобы, анамнез (в том числе эпидемиологический) у пациентов. Проводить физикальное исследование (осмотр, пальпацию, перкуссию, аускультацию). Интерпретировать и анализировать полученную информацию, результаты осмотра и обследования. Обосновывать и ставить диагноз с учётом Международной статистической классификации болезней (МКБ), применять методы дифференциальной диагностики. Разрабатывать план лечения, определять последовательность применения лекарств и немедикаментозной терапии. Определять медицинские показания для госпитализации, направления на медико-социальную экспертизу. Проводить противоэпидемические мероприятия: организовывать медицинское наблюдение и лабораторное обследование контактных лиц в очаге инфекции, заполнять и направлять экстренное извещение в органы санитарно-эпидемиологического надзора. Проводить санитарно-просветительную работу. В числе знаний нормативные правовые акты, порядки и клинические рекомендации по профилю, санитарные нормы и правила, принципы диспансерного наблюдения, медицинские показания и противопоказания к методам профилактики.

Высшее образование специалитет по специальности Лечебное дело или Педиатрия . Далее подготовка в интернатуре и (или) ординатуре по специальности Инфекционные болезни . Либо профессиональная переподготовка по этой же специальности, но при условии, что у врача уже есть подготовка в интернатуре/ординатуре по одной из смежных специальностей: Общая врачебная практика (семейная медицина), Педиатрия, Терапия, Фтизиатрия . Наличие свидетельства об аккредитации специалиста по специальности Инфекционные болезни (сертификаты специалистов больше не выдаются система сменилась аккредитацией). Прохождение обязательных предварительных (при поступлении на работу), периодических и внеочередных медицинских осмотров в установленном законодательством порядке. Отсутствие ограничений на занятие профессиональной деятельностью, предусмотренных законодательством РФ
