Организация работы подразделения. Заместитель помогает планировать деятельность отдела, распределяет задачи между сотрудниками, контролирует их выполнение. Работа с документами и обращениями. Принимает и проверяет заявления (например, на выдачу приглашений иностранцам, на регистрацию по месту пребывания), ведёт учёт, готовит проекты ответов на обращения граждан и организаций. Участвует в работе с информационными системами и базами данных, которые используются в отделе. Контроль за соблюдением правил. Следит, чтобы сотрудники отдела соблюдали законодательство в сфере миграции, правила делопроизводства, требования по защите персональных данных. Взаимодействие с другими структурами. Координирует работу с иными государственными органами, органами местного самоуправления, общественными организациями по вопросам, которые входят в компетенцию отдела. Участие в разработке документов. Помогает готовить проекты нормативных актов, аналитических материалов, справок для вышестоящих органов. Решение оперативных и сложных вопросов. Берёт на себя руководство в отсутствие начальника (отпуск, болезнь), исполняет его обязанности. Отчётность. Участвует в формировании отчётности по направлениям работы отдела, представляет её руководству. Соблюдение ограничений и требований. Как государственный гражданский служащий, заместитель обязан соблюдать ограничения, выполнять обязательства, следовать требованиям к служебному поведению, в том числе сообщать о личной заинтересованности, которая может привести к конфликту интересов.

На службу в органы внутренних дел вправе поступать граждане не моложе 18 лет. Предельный возраст поступления на службу установлен: для замещения должностей рядового состава и младшего начальствующего состава 50 лет, должностей среднего, старшего и высшего начальствующего состава 55 лет. Предельный возраст поступления на службу в органы внутренних дел для граждан, ранее проходивших службу в федеральных органах исполнительной власти на должностях, по которым предусмотрено присвоение специальных (воинских) званий, для замещения должностей рядового состава и младшего начальствующего состава 50 лет, должностей среднего и старшего начальствующего состава (до полковника полиции, полковника внутренней службы, полковника юстиции) 55 лет. Принимаются граждане отслужившие по призыву в Вооруженных Силах Российской Федерации или имеющие отсрочку от призыва.
