Приём и изучение клинико-морфологических данных. Перед исследованием изучать выписку из истории болезни, обсуждать случай с лечащим онкологом, чтобы понять контекст как развивалось заболевание, какие методы уже применялись. Макроскопическое исследование. Визуально оценивать операционный или биопсийный материал (опухоль, метастаз), фиксировать его внешний вид, размеры, локализацию. На этом этапе формулируется макроскопическое описание. Подготовка материала для микроскопии. Проводить вырезку отделять фрагмент ткани для дальнейшей обработки. Грамотно промаркировать образцы, чтобы не перепутать участки при исследовании. Микроскопическое изучение. Тканевые срезы окрашивать (часто с использованием специальных методов иммуногистохимии, ПЦР и др.) и изучать под микроскопом. На этом этапе патологоанатом формулирует микроскопическое заключение: описывать клеточный состав, структуру ткани, выявлять патологические изменения, определять тип опухоли, степень её дифференцировки. Назначение дополнительных исследований. Если данных недостаточно для точного диагноза, врач назначает дополнительные методы окраски, реакции или специализированные виды микроскопии. Формулирование диагноза и оформление заключения. На основе всех данных патологоанатом составляет заключение. В онкологическом контексте это особенно важно: диагноз влияет на тактику лечения (операция, химиотерапия, лучевая терапия), прогноз и возможность участия в клинических исследованиях. Консультации с клиницистами. В сложных или спорных случаях врач проводит консультации: обсуждает гистологические препараты, помогает интерпретировать результаты, при необходимости организует консилиум с участием заведующего отделением и лечащим врачом. Иногда для сложных случаев применяют телемедицинские технологии для дистанционного обсуждения. Работа с документацией. Ведёт протоколы исследований, оформляет заключения, вносит данные в медицинские информационные системы (в том числе электронные). Контроль качества и обеспечение безопасности. Участвовать во внутреннем контроле качества лабораторных исследований, следить за соблюдением правил безопасности при работе с биоматериалом, правильно хранить образцы. Организационные задачи. В части управления контролировать работу среднего медицинского персонала, составлять план работы и отчёты о проделанной работе.

Сертификат специалиста или свидетельство об аккредитации по специальности Патологическая анатомия . Прохождение обязательных предварительных и периодических медицинских осмотров. Отсутствие ограничений на профессиональную деятельность.
