The team:

The Business Intelligence team is responsible for building core data models, governed semantic layers, and data pipelines necessary for enterprise-level reporting and dashboards. This team also provides data support and governance standards for consumers of core data models, ensuring metrics remain accurate, consistent, and trusted across the company. The team takes queries and requirements from stakeholders and transforms them into scalable data models for the pipeline. This team is on the path to creating a governed, self-serve data environment for Jobberinos and is critical for all strategic business decisions that ultimately support Jobber’s Service Providers (SPs).

The role:

Reporting to the Manager, Business Intelligence, the Senior Business Intelligence Engineer will champion data literacy, governance, and adoption across the business, leading the design and development of analytical data assets, centralized semantic layers, and interactive BI solutions (reports, dashboards, and other business decision tools). This role will support strategic decisions and operational performance monitoring across all functional areas (e.g., Marketing, Sales, Customer Growth & Retention, Product). The purpose of the role is to establish robust data governance and standardized metric definitions so all information stakeholders need is readily available, governed, and easy to consume - driving a trusted, scalable self-service analytics environment.

As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will

- Design and develop scalable, efficient data models and governed semantic layers that support business requirements and enable accurate, standardized reporting and analysis.

- Translate complex SQL queries into scalable data models and reusable semantic models with emphasis in pipeline performance and query optimization

- Work closely with the Analytics team to model key business metrics in the Data Models for consumption into the semantic layer

- Create and maintain high-quality enterprise reports and dashboards that provide actionable insights to stakeholders.

- Develop and maintain data pipelines to ensure reliable and efficient data transformation, and loading processes.

- Manage and configure our BI platform, including user access, data governance, performance tuning, and security.

To be successful, you should have:

- Extensive experience in data architecture and dimensional modeling (star / snowflake schemas), with practical experience or strong familiarity in implementing semantic layers to support self-service analytics.

- Expert-level SQL programming skills

- Experience in building and maintaining data pipelines using DBT

- Proven understanding or experience in data governance practices, including metric standardization, data quality enforcement, and access control.

- Advanced proficiency in designing and constructing dashboards utilizing data visualization tools like Tableau or equivalent.

- A solid understanding of complex relational data structures and modern cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake).

- A passionate champion for data who can drive data literacy, advocate for self-service analytics, and influence business teams to adopt governed data solutions.

- A proactive and relentless approach to problem solving. You are comfortable seeking information independently, solving conceptual problems, corralling resources and delivering results.

- A strong and confident communication style. You can listen, empathize and consult with stakeholders actively, and you can take something complex and difficult and make it easy to digest.

- A sense of comfort in an ambiguous and fast-paced environment. We’re growing fast and things are changing every day - what worked yesterday might not work tomorrow.

Highly desired, but not a dealbreaker:

- DBT certifications

- Tableau certifications

- Data Engineering certifications

Compensation:

At Jobber, we also believe that compensation should be transparent, fair, and supportive of your experience and growth. This role has a minimum annual salary of $125,800 CAD, a midpoint of $147,900 CAD, and a maximum salary of $170,100 CAD, designed to reflect the progression from learning the ropes to truly excelling.

We design our compensation to reflect each new hire's skills, experience, and the complexity of the role, ensuring a fair and competitive salary. Our range is intentionally broad to support growth and long-term impact, with fully established hires typically starting around the midpoint. Base salary is just one part of a total compensation package that will include equity rewards, annual stipends for health and wellness, retirement savings matching, and an extended health package with fully paid premiums for body and mind. Your professional growth matters to us too! You'll have access to a dedicated talent development program that includes career coaching and opportunities for career development.

We believe in transparency and open conversations about compensation. If you have any questions about our approach, we're happy to discuss them throughout the hiring process!

What you can expect from Jobber:

- A total compensation package that includes an extended health benefits package with fully paid premiums for both body and mind, matching in RRSP, TFSA or FHSA, and stock options.

- A dedicated Talent Development team and access to coaching, learning, and leadership programs to help you grow your career, reach your goals, and unlock your full potential.

- A unique opportunity to build, grow, and leave your impact on a $400-billion industry that has no dominant player...yet.

- To work with a group of people who are humble, supportive, and give a sh*t about our customers.

We believe that diverse teams perform better and that fostering an inclusive work environment is a key part of growing a successful team. We welcome people of diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. We are an equal opportunity employer, and we are committed to working with applicants requesting accommodation at any stage of the hiring process.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
