The posting
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Accounting Senior Manager - CPG Team Lead based in United States.
This is a fully remote leadership opportunity focused on driving consistent, high-quality accounting delivery across a portfolio of consumer packaged goods (CPG) clients. You will lead and develop a team of Client Leads and accounting professionals while maintaining accountability for team performance, quality, and client outcomes. The role combines people leadership, technical accounting expertise, client escalation support, and capacity management in a fast-moving professional services environment. You will coach leaders through complex CPG challenges including trade promotions, deductions, inventory, landed costs, multi-channel revenue, and margin pressure. Success requires the ability to lead effectively in a remote environment, establish high standards, and develop team members without creating dependency. You will maintain selective hands-on client involvement to stay close to CPG accounting complexities and provide credible guidance when high-stakes situations arise. This role offers the opportunity to shape team effectiveness, strengthen delivery standards, and make a meaningful impact across a growing CPG client portfolio.
Accountabilities:
- Coach Client Leads on solution design, client management, delivery approaches, professional judgment, and effective execution across CPG engagements.
- Review engagement approaches for technical risk, complexity, and consistency, with particular attention to trade promotion accounting, inventory, landed costs, and multi-channel revenue.
- Serve as the first escalation point for delivery challenges, CPG-specific technical questions, capacity issues, and high-stakes client situations.
- Ensure client deliverables consistently meet established quality and professional standards before reaching clients.
- Conduct formal performance reviews and ongoing career development conversations while providing actionable coaching and feedback.
- Identify CPG accounting capability gaps and address them through targeted coaching, training, cross-training, or resourcing decisions.
- Build a team culture where Client Leads operate with confidence, accountability, and sound professional judgment rather than relying on escalation for routine decisions.
- Balance workloads across the team to manage month-end close peaks, seasonal CPG demand cycles, and coverage risks while maintaining delivery consistency.
- Maintain documentation and cross-training practices so that client engagements do not become dependent on a single individual.
- Maintain a deliberately limited personal CPG-focused client book to remain technically current, model expected standards, and provide credible coaching and escalation support.
- Engage directly with clients when complex onboarding, escalations, or high-stakes situations require senior-level involvement and guidance.
- Partner with Standards and Technology teams to translate broader accounting standards and tools into practical CPG-focused execution.
- Proactively identify recurring delivery issues, client patterns, and improvement opportunities and communicate them to senior leadership.
- Maintain strong professional standards for written communication, client interaction, responsiveness, and deliverable quality across the team.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and an active CPA designation are required.
- 7–10 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a Client Lead, Manager, or team leadership position; public accounting at the Manager level or outsourced accounting leadership experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated CPG accounting experience is required, including the ability to speak specifically to trade promotion accounting, inventory reconciliation, landed costs, and multi-channel COGS in a CPG environment.
- Strong practitioner-level understanding of CPG accounting, with the ability to review complex work, identify issues, and coach others without needing to perform every reconciliation personally.
- Familiarity with CPG-focused platforms and operational systems such as QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, Cin7, Shopify, and 3PL management systems is preferred.
- Deep working knowledge of GAAP and experience handling startup-specific accounting complexities such as SAFEs, convertible instruments, ASC 606, and equity compensation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage both a team and a client portfolio while maintaining high standards of quality, responsiveness, and delivery.
- Strong coaching and feedback capabilities, with previous experience developing junior accounting professionals and building their confidence and independence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the executive presence required for senior client interactions and escalations.
- Strong judgment, accountability, responsiveness, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks early and resolve issues efficiently.
- Experience leading teams in a fully remote professional services environment is strongly preferred.
- Annual compensation of $117,104–$137,769 USD, for a remote position in the United States.
- Fully remote work environment with company-provided technology equipment.
- $250 technology stipend to support a home office setup.
- Competitive medical, dental, and vision coverage, with 100% of the employee’s health insurance premium covered.
- Company-paid short-term and long-term disability insurance.
- Generous unlimited paid time off (PTO).
- 11 paid company holidays.
- Comprehensive paid parental leave.
- 401(k) plan with company matching.
- Leadership opportunity with broad responsibility across a CPG-focused accounting team and client portfolio.
