The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an AML Investigations Consultant based in the United States.

The AML Investigations Consultant will support a high-impact financial crime compliance project, conducting in-depth investigations into suspicious transaction monitoring alerts and helping strengthen anti-money laundering controls. This fully remote, project-based contract offers an opportunity to apply extensive AML expertise in a fast-paced environment focused on regulatory compliance, risk identification, and investigative quality. You will investigate customer activity, analyze complex payment flows, and assess cross-border transactions to identify potential suspicious behavior. A key priority will be helping remediate a backlog of aged alerts efficiently while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and adherence to internal policies and regulatory expectations. Working independently, you will use your investigative judgment to identify financial crime risks, escalate concerns, and support Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) referral decisions. The initial contract is expected to last three months, with the possibility of an extension based on project needs.

Accountabilities

  • Conduct end-to-end investigations of anti-money laundering (AML) transaction monitoring alerts, reviewing customer activity, transactional behavior, and supporting documentation to identify potential financial crime risks.
  • Analyze customer transaction patterns, account activity, payment flows, and cross-border transactions to detect suspicious behavior and potential money laundering indicators.
  • Execute high-volume AML alert backlog remediation, prioritizing and resolving aged alerts efficiently while maintaining investigative quality and consistency.
  • Assess findings against applicable regulatory requirements, internal policies, and established investigative procedures.
  • Identify suspicious activity, document investigative conclusions, and escalate cases requiring further review or additional action.
  • Support Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) referral decisions by providing clear, evidence-based investigative findings and relevant supporting documentation.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate case records that demonstrate the rationale behind investigative decisions and support compliance reviews.
  • Manage competing investigative priorities and deadlines while maintaining a high standard of accuracy, productivity, and regulatory compliance.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in AML investigations, financial crime compliance, or a closely related field.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with AML alert backlog remediation, including reviewing and clearing aged alerts at scale.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting end-to-end investigations of transaction monitoring alerts and evaluating potentially suspicious financial activity.
  • Strong understanding of customer transaction behavior, payment flows, cross-border transactions, and common indicators of money laundering or other financial crimes.
  • Experience documenting investigative findings, identifying potential risks, escalating suspicious activity, and supporting SAR referral decisions.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to assess complex financial activity and reach well-supported conclusions.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistent investigative quality while working with high volumes of alerts and tight deadlines.
  • Strong written communication skills and the ability to produce clear, accurate, and well-documented investigative case narratives.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, project-based environment while meeting productivity, quality, and compliance expectations.
  • Preferred: Bachelor’s degree.
  • Preferred: Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certification.
  • Location requirement: Applicants must reside in the continental United States.
  • Work authorization: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States now and in the future. Employment eligibility will be verified at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available.
  • Hourly compensation of $45–$50 per hour.
  • Fully remote work arrangement within the continental United States.
  • Initial contract duration of approximately 3 months, with a possible extension depending on project needs.
  • Opportunity to contribute specialized AML expertise to a focused financial crime compliance and alert remediation initiative.
  • Benefits are not specifically detailed for this contract role; eligibility for additional benefits has not been confirmed.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
