The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Civil/Structural Designer based in the United States.

This is an opportunity for an experienced Civil/Structural Designer to contribute to complex engineering projects across heavy industrial sectors, including oil and gas, chemicals, power, manufacturing, and metals. Working remotely from the United States, you will develop detailed civil and structural designs that support safe, efficient, and constructible industrial facilities. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contribute to field inspections, and help maintain high standards of technical accuracy and quality. The role combines hands-on CAD design, structural assessments, and practical problem-solving in demanding industrial environments. Occasional travel to operating facilities may be required for site verification and field measurements. You will also have the opportunity to support junior designers and contribute to continuous improvements in design standards and workflows.

Accountabilities:

  • Perform structural inspections of existing facility steel structures and fireproofing in accordance with established engineering guidelines.
  • Prepare conceptual drawings, sketches, and material take-offs for concrete and structural steel.
  • Develop detailed civil and structural drawings for industrial facilities, including foundations, grading plans, underground piping and drainage, structural steel pipe racks, and support systems.
  • Support engineering teams by reviewing vendor shop drawings and fabrication drawings for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Collaborate with civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers and designers throughout the design process.
  • Update drawings based on redline markups and field observations, ensuring design documentation reflects current project conditions.
  • Conduct field engineering activities, structural inspections, site measurements, and surveys as required by the project scope.
  • Review structural drawings and project contract documents to identify errors, omissions, and quality issues.
  • Participate in weekly project meetings to discuss design progress, technical challenges, and project coordination.
  • Review and update CAD standards as needed to improve consistency, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Mentor junior designers and provide first-level technical oversight.
  • Follow applicable industrial site safety requirements when working around existing equipment, congested layouts, elevated work areas, and active operations.
  • High school diploma required; an associate degree from a technical trade school is preferred.
  • At least five years of civil and structural drafting and design experience, including structural steel and reinforced concrete in heavy industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards and the ability to apply them to engineering design work.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and CadWorx.
  • Experience with 3D structural modeling and the ability to produce accurate technical drawings and design documentation.
  • Familiarity with CAD systems, Microsoft Office applications, and other relevant design software.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, manage assigned tasks, and operate effectively with limited supervision.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Willingness and ability to travel occasionally to industrial client sites, including plants, refineries, mills, manufacturing facilities, and power facilities.
  • Ability to walk one to two miles within industrial facilities, work at elevated heights, perform field surveys and measurements, reference known or temporary benchmarks, and prepare detailed field notes and sketches.
  • Experience with Advance Steel is desirable. Familiarity with the latest version of Navisworks and steel detailing is an additional advantage.
  • An active Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), or the ability to obtain one immediately after hiring, is preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a post-offer drug and alcohol test, including marijuana testing, in accordance with applicable federal regulations, and comply with random testing requirements as a condition of continued employment.
  • Competitive compensation ranging from $45 to $65 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and location.
  • Fully remote work arrangement for candidates based in the United States.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and prescription drug coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan.
  • Supplemental insurance options.
  • Company-paid life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance.
  • Company-paid short-term disability coverage.
  • Company-paid maternity and bonding leave.
  • Generous paid time off.
  • Career advancement opportunities.
  • A comprehensive benefits package designed to support health, financial security, and work-life balance.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
