We are seeking a strategic, hands-on Director of Data & IT to lead data, analytics, and internal technology functions within a mission-driven organization. In this leadership role, you will strengthen data infrastructure, improve technology operations, and build scalable systems that support organizational growth and informed decision-making. You will shape the data and technology roadmap, enhance governance and security practices, and ensure teams have access to reliable information and effective digital tools. Working closely with senior leadership and cross-functional teams, you will translate organizational priorities into practical solutions and sustainable technology investments. You will also drive adoption of new tools and processes, including AI-enabled capabilities, while fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and data-informed decision-making. This remote opportunity is ideal for a collaborative leader who combines technical expertise with strategic thinking and a passion for making technology more accessible, effective, and impactful.

Accountabilities

  • Develop and execute a data and internal technology strategy aligned with organizational priorities, operational needs, and long-term growth.
  • Lead the design, implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of the data ecosystem, including data warehouses, data pipelines, reporting infrastructure, and business intelligence dashboards.
  • Establish and strengthen data governance practices to improve data quality, privacy, security, accessibility, consistency, and responsible information management.
  • Develop organization-wide standards for knowledge management, collaboration platforms, information architecture, document management, and AI-enabled tools.
  • Oversee day-to-day IT operations, including end-user support, system administration, device lifecycle management, cybersecurity, business continuity, and reliable technology services.
  • Evaluate, select, implement, and manage internal technology solutions, software procurement, vendor relationships, and Managed Service Provider (MSP) performance.
  • Partner with leadership and staff to establish technology priorities, develop a practical implementation roadmap, and translate strategic objectives into measurable improvements.
  • Lead change management and organization-wide adoption of data and technology initiatives, helping employees build confidence and capability with new systems and practices.
  • Manage Data & IT resource planning and investment recommendations, balancing organizational needs, budget, staffing capacity, risk, and long-term sustainability.
  • Supervise, coach, and develop a direct report, establish performance expectations, and support professional growth and accountability.
  • Build trusted relationships across teams, communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences, and ensure technology investments deliver meaningful organizational value.
  • Assess current systems and processes, identify opportunities and risks, and demonstrate measurable progress toward a more connected, scalable, and effective technology environment.
  • Travel nationally as needed for organizational priorities and professional learning.
  • At least 6 years of progressive experience building and executing data or analytics functions, including managing complex technology initiatives.
  • 3–5 years of experience supervising and developing direct reports, setting performance expectations, and establishing and monitoring team key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Demonstrated ability to translate organizational strategy and stakeholder needs into prioritized technology roadmaps, manage competing priorities and resource constraints, and lead cross-functional initiatives from planning through implementation and adoption.
  • Strong technical fluency in SQL, data architecture, analytics, and modern data platforms.
  • Experience evaluating, managing, and improving enterprise technology solutions, including designing, implementing, and maintaining SaaS and data platforms.
  • Experience integrating workflow automation, AI-enabled tools, and business systems to improve organizational effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data governance, data quality, privacy, security, and responsible information stewardship.
  • Experience overseeing internal IT operations, including end-user support, technology vendors, Managed Service Providers (MSPs), cybersecurity, device management, and business continuity.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build trusted partnerships and explain complex technical topics to diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to the organization's mission, values, and principles of diversity, belonging, inclusion, and equity.
  • Must reside in the United States and be legally authorized to work in the country without employment visa sponsorship.
  • Experience in a nonprofit, education, or education technology (EdTech) organization.
  • Experience with Salesforce, including administration, reporting, or integrations.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud data platforms, business intelligence tools, and ETL/ELT technologies.
  • Experience supporting fully remote or geographically distributed teams.
  • Annual salary: $120,000–$139,114. The salary range is non-negotiable, with starting compensation determined by relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.
  • Remote work: A remote working environment with technology and collaboration practices designed to support distributed teams.
  • Flexible time off: Unlimited discretionary time off (DTO) and sick time.
  • Paid holidays: 21 paid holidays and office closure days in 2026.
  • Healthcare coverage: The organization covers 90% of healthcare costs for employees and their immediate family.
  • Retirement savings: 401(k) plan eligibility after six months of employment, including safe harbor contributions and an employer match.
  • Home office support: Initial home office and technology setup stipend.
  • Communication support: Monthly communications reimbursement.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
