The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Thought Leader Engagement (TLEL) based in United States.

This senior commercial role will lead strategic engagement with national and regional Thought Leaders and Opinion Leaders across the Gastroenterology franchise. You will partner with marketing and cross-functional teams to design compliant, high-impact engagement strategies aligned with brand and business priorities. The role combines relationship management, customer insight generation, strategic planning, and cross-functional influence in a highly regulated healthcare environment. You will identify emerging leaders, strengthen long-term relationships, and create coordinated engagement experiences across functions. Insights gathered through individual and group interactions will help shape brand strategies, customer engagement plans, and broader commercial priorities. The position also plays an important role in congress planning, engagement measurement, governance, and innovative approaches to stakeholder engagement. This is a highly visible opportunity for a strategic leader who can influence without authority and translate customer perspectives into meaningful business outcomes.

Accountabilities

  • Partner with marketing leaders to develop and execute strategic Thought Leader and Opinion Leader engagement plans aligned with brand and Gastroenterology franchise objectives.
  • Map the Thought Leader community to identify established and emerging experts, understand relationships and networks, and inform engagement strategies and channels.
  • Develop individualized engagement approaches and build strong, long-term relationships with national and regional Thought Leaders.
  • Serve as the primary commercial contact for assigned Thought Leaders while coordinating a consistent, integrated experience across internal functions.
  • Identify innovative ways to expand stakeholder engagement, including digital approaches and new engagement models.
  • Lead insight-gathering activities through one-to-one interactions and small-group meetings, capturing perspectives on treatment patterns, unmet needs, brand perceptions, expertise, and market dynamics.
  • Synthesize stakeholder insights into actionable recommendations that inform brand, franchise, customer engagement, and commercial strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and consistent documentation of insights and engagement activity to support knowledge sharing and longitudinal relationship management.
  • Collaborate closely with Marketing, Medical Affairs, Sales Leadership, Market Access, and other stakeholders to align engagement activities with broader commercial and medical plans.
  • Support national and regional congress engagement strategies, including recommendations, planning, coordination, and stakeholder interactions.
  • Establish and monitor engagement metrics, post-engagement evaluations, objectives, and performance indicators while maintaining current Thought Leader lists.
  • Ensure all engagement activities comply with applicable company policies, legal requirements, and compliance standards, partnering with relevant governance teams as needed.
  • Collaborate with global and regional colleagues to align engagement strategies and maximize consistency and impact.
  • Influence cross-functional teams and guide colleagues toward meaningful outcomes while contributing to broader business strategy and organizational impact.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Approximately 8–10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or related healthcare industries.
  • Experience in commercial, medical affairs, marketing, sales leadership, strategy, customer engagement, or related functions.
  • Demonstrated success developing and maintaining strong relationships with external Thought Leaders, Opinion Leaders, and senior internal stakeholders.
  • Experience designing and executing Thought Leader or Opinion Leader engagement programs is strongly preferred.
  • Gastroenterology experience is preferred.
  • Science or clinical background is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively within complex, cross-functional, matrixed organizations and influence stakeholders without formal authority.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate customer and market insights into practical, actionable strategies.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, facilitation, relationship-building, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, executive presence, emotional intelligence, creativity, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, and guide colleagues toward meaningful outcomes.
  • Ability to travel approximately 50%, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Must be located in the United States and able to work East Coast business hours; U.S. permanent work authorization is required, and visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
  • Annual base salary range of $176,600–$294,300, depending on factors such as location, experience, qualifications, and skills.
  • Eligibility for a 20% target annual performance bonus.
  • Eligibility to participate in a share-based long-term incentive program.
  • Comprehensive medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage.
  • 401(k) plan with employer matching contributions and an additional retirement savings contribution.
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and personal days.
  • Paid caregiver, parental, and medical leave.
  • Remote work opportunity within the United States, with East Coast business hours preferred.
  • Potential relocation assistance based on business needs and eligibility.
  • Opportunity to work in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment with significant strategic and executive visibility.
  • Opportunity to influence customer engagement strategy and evidence-based commercial decision-making within a global healthcare organization.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
