The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Policy Principal – Enabling Building Electrification & Affordability based in the United States.

This is an exciting opportunity for an early- to mid-career policy professional to accelerate the transition to clean, affordable, and resilient buildings across the United States. You will work at the intersection of energy policy, utility regulation, and political advocacy to advance building electrification and improve electricity affordability. Collaborating with state and regional teams, industry stakeholders, and policymakers, you will help shape legislation, regulatory proceedings, and administrative strategies. Your work will address critical challenges, including gas infrastructure planning, clean heat programs, utility ratemaking, and innovative alternatives to traditional energy infrastructure. You will translate complex technical and economic issues into compelling policy recommendations that support consumers and advance clean energy solutions. This fully remote position offers the opportunity to influence policy at the state and regional levels while working alongside a collaborative network of experts and advocates. If you are a strategic thinker who thrives in a dynamic environment and wants to make a tangible impact on the future of energy, this role offers an opportunity to turn your expertise into meaningful change.

Accountabilities

  • Advance energy policy and advocacy: Collaborate with state, regional, and federal teams to implement short- and long-term policy strategies that accelerate building electrification and improve electric affordability across key states.
  • Support legislative and regulatory initiatives: Contribute to advocacy efforts involving state legislatures, public utility commissions, administrative agencies, and governors' offices, with a focus on gas transition planning, non-pipeline alternatives, clean heat programs, electric rate design, and utility ratemaking.
  • Develop policy and advocacy materials: Draft regulatory comments, legislative testimony, policy briefs, fact sheets, presentations, and other written and visual resources that communicate complex technical and economic concepts clearly.
  • Build strategic relationships: Establish and maintain productive relationships with internal teams, member companies, coalition partners, policymakers, regulators, and other key stakeholders to advance shared policy objectives.
  • Strengthen communications and public engagement: Work with communications colleagues to identify opportunities for earned media coverage, including opinion pieces and editorial board meetings, and communicate the benefits of clean, affordable, and resilient buildings.
  • Coordinate coalitions and stakeholder engagement: Support coalition-building efforts, participate in partner meetings and calls, organize educational sessions, and facilitate discussions with decision-makers and industry stakeholders.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and execution: Help develop and implement advocacy strategies that address utility business model reform, infrastructure planning, and the economic challenges associated with the transition to electrified buildings.
  • Represent the organization externally: Participate in stakeholder meetings, industry events, advocacy days, and public panels, sharing policy insights and representing member interests.
  • Travel as needed: Travel to targeted states for stakeholder engagement, staff training, advocacy initiatives, communications outreach, and industry events, with travel expected to account for up to 25% of the role.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Relevant experience: Approximately 4–6 years of professional experience, including at least two years focused on clean energy, utility policy, or related areas.
  • Policy and regulatory knowledge: Foundational understanding of utility regulation, state energy policy, public utility commission proceedings, and state legislative or administrative decision-making processes.
  • Utility industry expertise: Familiarity with utility business models, infrastructure planning, rate design, ratemaking, or related energy policy issues is highly desirable.
  • Advocacy and coalition experience: Experience participating in coalitions, engaging with stakeholders, and supporting legislative or regulatory advocacy initiatives.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking: Ability to assess complex technical and political issues, recognize opportunities for policy change, and contribute to effective advocacy strategies.
  • Exceptional communication skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interpret technical information and explain it to audiences with different levels of expertise.
  • Project management and organization: Strong prioritization, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: A proactive, adaptable, and resourceful approach, with the initiative to identify opportunities, solve problems, and support the execution of strategic plans.
  • Interpersonal skills: Excellent listening, relationship-building, and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and external partners.
  • Professional commitment: A strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity, demonstrated initiative, and a results-oriented approach to achieving objectives.
  • Remote work readiness: Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fully remote environment.
  • Travel availability: Willingness and ability to travel within the United States as required, potentially up to 25% of the time.
  • Location eligibility: Must reside in the United States.
  • Salary: Starting salary of $75,000 per year.
  • Employment type: Full-time, regular position.
  • Work arrangement: Fully remote, offering flexibility to work from anywhere within the United States.
  • Healthcare coverage: Medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and their families, with 100% of employee medical premiums covered.
  • Flexible spending accounts: Options for healthcare and dependent care expenses.
  • Retirement benefits: 401(k) plan with matching incentives.
  • Financial incentives: Profit-sharing opportunities and annual merit-based compensation increases.
  • Wellness support: $75 monthly personal wellness reimbursement.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
