The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a QA Portfolio Manager based in the United States.

The QA Portfolio Manager will lead quality assurance strategy and execution across a diverse portfolio of independently developed video games, ensuring each title meets high-quality standards and platform certification requirements before release. This role oversees external QA partners across functional, compatibility, compliance, and localization testing, aligning testing plans with production milestones and release schedules. Working closely with developers, production teams, and publishing stakeholders, you will manage vendor relationships, budgets, and testing resources across multiple concurrent projects. You will also evaluate test results, prioritize quality risks, and help drive critical release-readiness decisions. Combining strategic oversight with hands-on testing when needed, you will provide actionable feedback and establish scalable QA processes. This is an opportunity to influence the player experience across a varied game portfolio in a collaborative, fast-moving, remote environment.

Accountabilities

  • Define and maintain QA strategies, standards, and testing approaches tailored to each game's genre, platforms, development stage, and risk profile.
  • Manage external QA vendors across functional testing (FQA), compliance testing (CQA), localization testing (LQA), and compatibility testing, including vendor evaluation, onboarding, capacity planning, and performance monitoring.
  • Scope QA needs against production schedules and developer milestones, coordinating vendor engagements, Statements of Work (SOWs), quotes, timelines, and contract end dates.
  • Oversee QA vendor budgets, purchase orders, invoices, and cost variances to ensure services remain aligned with approved spending.
  • Act as the primary QA contact for external development teams, coordinating build and patch schedules with vendor testing cycles.
  • Conduct hands-on testing when necessary, verify bug fixes, assess issue severity, and produce clear, actionable bug reports.
  • Deliver detailed gameplay feedback informed by comparable titles and current market standards.
  • Review and prioritize vendor test results, coordinate bug triage and resolution with developers, and contribute to milestone acceptance and release-readiness decisions in partnership with Production.
  • Provide data-driven reporting on game quality, development progress, emerging risks, and overall project health to production teams and leadership.
  • Track certification and compliance requirements across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Steam, and mobile storefronts, ensuring testing plans support submission timelines.
  • Maintain an up-to-date overview of vendor capabilities, specialties, rates, and availability, resolving escalations and assigning appropriate partners to each title and testing phase.
  • Develop and improve QA documentation, test plans, bug-tracking workflows, and reporting templates that support a growing portfolio of games and development partners.
  • At least 5 years of experience in QA leadership, vendor or partner management, or production within the video game industry, including direct oversight of external QA vendors.
  • Demonstrated experience managing QA service Statements of Work, vendor quotes, and external testing engagements.
  • Strong understanding of FQA, CQA, and LQA methodologies, bug-tracking systems, and certification and compliance requirements across console, PC, and mobile platforms.
  • Proven ability to develop, review, and refine test plans for games across different genres, platforms, and gameplay modes, including single-player and multiplayer experiences.
  • Experience coordinating QA across multiple concurrent titles and external studios, with strong project management skills and the ability to manage varied workflows, tools, and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, development teams, and external QA partners.
  • Strong relationship management skills and a demonstrated ability to build productive, long-term partnerships.
  • A self-directed, adaptable approach, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an environment with evolving priorities and ambiguity.
  • Proficiency with bug-tracking and test-management tools, spreadsheets, and project-tracking software.
  • A broad interest in video games across PC, console, and mobile platforms is an advantage.
  • Existing relationships with FQA, CQA, or LQA vendors, experience with platform partner programs such as PlayStation Partners, Xbox ID@Xbox or Partner programs, and the Nintendo Developer Portal, or experience supporting independent and mid-sized development studios are considered additional assets.
  • A passion for process improvement, quality standards, and cross-functional collaboration is highly valued.
  • Hourly compensation ranging from $33.65 to $48.07, depending on qualifications and experience.
  • Remote work arrangement.
  • Contract employment offering the opportunity to contribute to quality assurance across a varied portfolio of video game projects.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
