The posting
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Automation QA Engineer (Playwright/TypeScript) based in Portugal.
As a Senior Automation QA Engineer, you will play a key role in strengthening software quality and reliability across a portfolio of innovative, technology-driven products. You will design, develop, and maintain robust end-to-end and API test automation solutions using TypeScript and Playwright. A major focus will be modernizing existing testing infrastructure by migrating legacy Java-based tests to a more scalable and maintainable framework. You will also contribute to performance engineering through load testing, system analysis, and optimization in collaboration with development teams. Working in a fully remote, collaborative environment, you will influence testing architecture, promote clean code practices, and share expertise through code reviews and mentoring. This role offers the opportunity to take technical ownership, solve complex quality challenges, and help build efficient, high-performing systems.
Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, maintain, and stabilize automated end-to-end (E2E) and API tests using TypeScript and Playwright.
- Lead the migration of legacy automated tests from Java and Selenide to a modern Playwright and TypeScript-based testing framework.
- Build and continuously improve test automation architecture, including fixtures, browser contexts, test data management, state handling, and parallel execution capabilities.
- Develop and optimize load-testing scenarios using k6, collaborating with software developers to analyze system performance and identify bottlenecks.
- Evaluate performance metrics, investigate scalability limitations, and recommend improvements to enhance application responsiveness and reliability.
- Apply appropriate test design techniques and testing strategies to ensure meaningful coverage across UI, API, and performance testing layers.
- Write clean, maintainable, reliable, and concurrency-safe code that supports stable automated test execution.
- Conduct code reviews, share technical knowledge, and promote consistent engineering and quality assurance standards across the team.
- Collaborate closely with product teams, developers, and other QA engineers to integrate quality practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Contribute to continuous integration and delivery processes by improving automated testing workflows and integrating test suites into CI/CD pipelines.
- Explore modern tools, including AI-powered coding assistants, to streamline testing activities and reduce repetitive tasks.
- At least five years of professional experience in software quality assurance, test automation, or a related engineering role.
- Strong proficiency in TypeScript, including interfaces, generics, asynchronous programming, and async/await patterns.
- Hands-on experience building and evolving Playwright automation frameworks from the ground up, including fixtures, browser contexts, test state and data management, and test stability.
- Proven experience automating UI workflows through E2E testing and validating REST APIs, with a solid understanding of what to test at each level.
- Strong knowledge of test design techniques, testing methodologies, coverage assessment, and risk-based test prioritization.
- Practical experience with load and performance testing, including workload modeling, performance metrics, bottleneck identification, and results analysis. Experience with tools such as JMeter, Gatling, or Locust is relevant; familiarity with k6 is particularly valuable.
- Ability to write clean, maintainable, and reliable automation code that supports parallel execution and minimizes flaky tests.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to investigate complex technical issues.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with a proactive approach to knowledge sharing, constructive feedback, and cross-functional teamwork.
- Familiarity with Java, Maven, and Selenide is an advantage, particularly when working with legacy automation suites.
- Experience with CI/CD platforms such as GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins is desirable.
- Knowledge of OpenAPI and Swagger specifications for designing and generating API tests is beneficial.
- Basic understanding of Kubernetes concepts, including pods, nodes, resource limits, resource allocation, and eviction, is a plus.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools, such as Claude Code or Cursor, including project context management and workflow automation, is an advantage.
- A continuous improvement mindset and enthusiasm for modern engineering practices, technical challenges, and professional development.
- Fully remote work: Work from a location that suits your needs, with access to office hubs in Kyiv and Warsaw.
- Paid time off: 20 working days of paid leave, in addition to public holidays and sick leave.
- Health and well-being: Medical insurance with access to leading clinics and coverage for psychological support through the Pleso platform.
- Flexible lifestyle benefits: A monthly benefits allowance that can be used for personal interests, hobbies, sports, and other eligible activities.
- Professional development: An individual learning budget for courses, workshops, and other development opportunities.
- Language learning: Corporate English classes to support communication and career growth.
- Learning resources: Access to an online library, mentoring programs, and internal training opportunities.
- Career progression: A structured career development plan supported by regular performance reviews and professional growth initiatives.
- Team culture: Team-building activities, corporate events, workshops, and opportunities to connect with colleagues beyond day-to-day work.
- Modern engineering environment: Access to in-house technical capabilities, opportunities to build solutions from scratch, and a culture that encourages automation and continuous improvement.
- Autonomy and flexibility: A collaborative, open, and low-bureaucracy environment that values initiative, straightforward communication, and ownership.
- Ethical business practices: A commitment to responsible operations, with no clients using the company's products and services in the Ukrainian market and no collaboration with clients from Russia or other Russian-speaking markets.
