This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Editor based in United States.

This part-time contract role supports the planning, editing, and production of a leading publication focused on alpinism, climbing, and mountain exploration. You will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief and volunteer contributors to shape compelling, accurate, and publication-ready stories. The position combines reporting, long-form editing, research, fact-checking, and digital publishing across multiple channels. You will also contribute to photo and caption preparation, online stories, newsletters, and podcast-related research. This is an opportunity to bring strong editorial judgment and deep climbing knowledge to a respected specialist publication. The contract runs from November 2026 through April 2027, with potential for renewal and an expanded scope.

Accountabilities:

  • Report on, edit, and fact-check expedition reports, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and editorial quality.
  • Edit longer-form articles in collaboration with volunteer climber-writers and the Editor-in-Chief.
  • Conduct research for the journal, podcast, newsletter, website, and other editorial channels.
  • Collect, organize, and prepare photographs and captions for publication.
  • Upload, edit, and maintain stories for online publication.
  • Support print publication planning and production as needed.
  • Take on additional editorial responsibilities assigned by the Editor-in-Chief while meeting agreed timelines and quality standards.
  • Extensive climbing experience and strong knowledge of alpinism and mountaineering.
  • Deep knowledge of and enthusiasm for climbing history, mountain exploration, and climbing journalism.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
  • Proven experience reporting and editing climbing news or other specialized subject-matter journalism.
  • Strong long-form editing skills and experience preparing articles for publication.
  • Experience with print publication planning and layout in collaboration with an art director.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to respond positively to feedback and constructive criticism.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with colleagues, external contractors, and climbers from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of English proficiency.
  • Demonstrated ability to work comfortably within demanding publication schedules and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Competency with Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and InDesign, as well as Google Workspace and Slack.
  • Compensation of $40–$45 per hour.
  • Part-time contract averaging approximately 30 hours per month.
  • Remote work arrangement.
  • Contract duration from November 2026 through April 2027.
  • Opportunity to contribute to a respected publication focused on alpinism, climbing, and mountain exploration.
  • Potential for contract renewal with an expanded scope and compensation following successful completion of the initial contract.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
