This role is responsible for driving profitable growth and strengthening strategic customer relationships across the dairy industry. You will manage sales and service activities for assigned accounts, with ownership of revenue, margin, operating income, and sales expense objectives. The position combines commercial leadership, technical expertise, customer development, and strategic account planning in a highly relationship-driven environment. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop territory strategies, support product initiatives, and deliver solutions that address customer needs. With travel of up to 50%, you will maintain a strong presence with customers, industry partners, and events. Accountabilities
- Develop, execute, and regularly update sales budgets for assigned customers, territories, and product lines while maintaining accountability for sales, gross margin, operating income, and expense objectives.
- Build accurate sales forecasts and reporting that support consensus planning, production requirements, and inventory management.
- Establish and manage a strategic territorial sales call plan designed to optimize customer coverage, time, and commercial resources.
- Develop and implement customer acquisition, retention, and growth programs that strengthen long-term partnerships and expand business within assigned accounts.
- Lead territory expansion initiatives and identify opportunities to increase sales and profitable growth across the dairy customer base.
- Develop and execute strategic plans for key customers, building relationships with stakeholders at multiple levels of each customer organization.
- Manage the full sales process, including identifying prospects, developing customer projects, delivering technical and commercial presentations, closing opportunities, and supporting successful implementation and startup programs.
- Develop, execute, document, and maintain customer sales projects that support or exceed territory growth expectations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement marketing strategies and support product development initiatives aligned with customer and market needs.
- Provide ongoing customer service and relationship management after the sale, ensuring continued satisfaction, retention, and account growth.
- Lead high-level customer meetings and support customers with product testing and evaluation activities at manufacturing facilities.
- Work collaboratively with other account managers through a team-selling approach, mentor account representatives when appropriate, and represent the business at industry trade shows, conferences, and events.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Animal Nutrition, Agricultural Business, or a related field, combined with 5–7 years of experience in the dairy industry.
- A Master’s degree is highly preferred, with candidates holding a Master’s degree and 3+ years of relevant dairy industry experience also considered.
- Strong knowledge of biological sciences and the ability to translate technical concepts into compelling commercial presentations for prospective and existing customers.
- Demonstrated experience managing sales projects from development through successful completion, with a clear focus on measurable commercial outcomes.
- Proven ability to drive sales growth, improve margins, develop strategic customer relationships, and manage complex accounts within the dairy sector.
- Strong project and time management capabilities, with the energy, initiative, and personal motivation required to manage multiple priorities and customer commitments.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to establish relationships and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and database development tools, along with the ability to learn and train others on relevant systems.
- Candidates should be located in California, Arizona, Nevada, or Utah; candidates in Idaho, Washington, or Oregon may also be considered.
- Candidates with high potential and less experience may be considered for a position level appropriate to their skills and professional background.
- The role requires the ability to travel up to 50% to support customers, territory development, industry events, and other business activities.
