This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Property Accountant based in United States.
This role is responsible for delivering accurate accounting and financial reporting across a portfolio of properties and clients. You will oversee general ledger activities, cash management, reconciliations, journal entries, and monthly financial reporting while ensuring compliance with accounting policies and internal controls. The position requires strong technical accounting knowledge and the ability to manage different client reporting requirements with accuracy and efficiency. You will work closely with clients, property management teams, and internal stakeholders to provide timely financial information and exceptional service. The role also includes mentoring less experienced accounting professionals and contributing to the improvement of accounting procedures. Accountabilities
- Prepare accurate monthly financial statements and reporting packages in accordance with established deadlines, accounting policies, procedures, and internal control requirements.
- Prepare financial reporting for multiple clients, adapting deliverables to their individual reporting requirements and ensuring consistent quality and accuracy.
- Manage general ledger activities for an assigned portfolio of properties, including journal entries, accruals, income reconciliations, prepaid rent documentation, and other accounting adjustments.
- Apply detailed technical accounting knowledge to evaluate the appropriate accounting treatment for property-level transactions and financial activities.
- Manage property cash flow to ensure expenses are paid appropriately, funding requirements are anticipated, and sufficient cash balances are maintained.
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis and perform bank reconciliations as required.
- Process cash disbursements through wires and checks, prepare invoices and intercompany collections, and maintain accurate daily cash balances.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with clients and property management teams, providing responsive service and timely financial information.
- Mentor and support new or less experienced accounting staff, sharing technical knowledge and helping strengthen team capabilities.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of written accounting policies and procedures for assigned functions and responsibilities.
- Support additional accounting projects and perform other duties as assigned by management or the executive team.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 2 years of property management experience is preferred, with relevant equivalent accounting experience also considered.
- Strong knowledge of property accounting principles, general ledger processes, financial reporting, cash management, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Experience with property management or industry-specific accounting software such as Yardi, MRI, and/or RealPage/OneSite is preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong general computer skills are required.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to assess accounting treatments accurately across complex property transactions.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple clients, reporting requirements, and deadlines effectively.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a customer-focused approach to working with clients, property management teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team and mentoring less experienced colleagues.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and work with financial data, documents, and computer systems for extended periods.
- The role may require extended periods of sitting or standing and occasional lifting or carrying of office materials weighing up to 15 pounds.
- Annual salary range of $65,000–$85,000.
