The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Quality Assurance Engineer based in Canada.

As a Software Quality Assurance Engineer specializing in DO-178C and DO-254, you will help ensure that safety-critical software development processes and deliverables meet rigorous certification standards. Working remotely in Canada, you will collaborate with engineering teams, senior quality assurance specialists, project leads, and certification stakeholders across multiple programs. You will contribute to certification planning, quality audits, compliance tracking, configuration management, and the preparation of certification evidence. You will also support safety-related verification activities by helping maintain traceability and identify gaps in requirements coverage. This role offers the opportunity to develop specialized expertise in aerospace and other high-assurance environments while contributing to reliable, secure, and certifiable software systems.

Accountabilities:

  • Support DO-178C and DO-254 certification activities across multiple programs, including Software and Hardware Aspects of Certification reviews from SOI-1 through SOI-4, in collaboration with senior SQA engineers.
  • Assist in preparing, reviewing, and refining certification documentation, including PSAC, SDP, SVP, and SCMP artifacts, ensuring consistency, completeness, and quality.
  • Conduct software quality assurance audits and compliance checks, identifying gaps between documented processes and actual execution and helping track corrective actions.
  • Coordinate day-to-day certification activities by organizing deliverables, tracking review comments and resolutions, and maintaining complete certification evidence packages.
  • Participate in configuration management and change control activities, including Configuration Control Board (CCB) processes and baseline tracking.
  • Help prepare for customer audits, internal audits, and reviews involving Safety Managers and Designated Engineering Representatives (DERs).
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to clarify certification requirements and ensure development activities align with applicable standards and processes.
  • Support requirements traceability across software life cycle requirements, including SLR, HLR, LLR, testing, and associated verification evidence.
  • Contribute to safety-related verification activities by tracing safety mechanisms, identifying gaps in safety-critical requirements, and coordinating with Engineering to ensure adequate verification coverage for safety-impacting functionality.
  • Help improve internal SQA processes, templates, tools, and workflows to support consistent and repeatable certification execution.
  • Learn from senior SQA engineers and develop in-depth knowledge of certification approaches, tools, and practices for safety-critical software products.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Software, Systems, Electrical, or a related discipline.
  • Two to five or more years of experience in hardware engineering, software engineering, systems engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least two years of experience in software quality assurance.
  • Basic understanding of software and hardware development life cycles, engineering documentation, and structured development processes.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly when managing technical documentation, evidence, and compliance activities.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a structured, process-driven environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across engineering and program teams.
  • Interest in developing a long-term career in software quality assurance and certification.
  • Exposure to DO-178C, DO-254, or comparable safety-critical standards such as ISO 26262 or IEC 61508 is an advantage.
  • Previous experience supporting certification, audits, or compliance activities is desirable.
  • Familiarity with configuration management and collaboration tools such as Git, Jira, and Confluence is beneficial.
  • A basic understanding of embedded systems, operating systems, or hypervisors is an asset.
  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or other safety-critical industries is preferred.
  • Annual salary range of CAD $90,000–$110,000.
  • Eligibility for a bonus.
  • Medical and dental benefits fully paid by the employer.
  • Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) with employer matching.
  • Responsible Paid Time Off and paid holidays.
  • Remote work opportunities.
  • Career growth and professional development opportunities.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
