The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Manager, Software Engineering – Android & Device Platforms based in the United States.

This remote leadership role offers the opportunity to shape software engineering across a diverse portfolio of connected-device products in a healthcare technology environment. You will oversee engineering for Android-based devices, digital signage, patient engagement solutions, field operations tools, and supporting back-office systems. Combining hands-on technical contributions with people leadership, you will guide architecture, code quality, engineering execution, and the development of high-performing teams. You will also champion AI-assisted engineering practices and explore intelligent capabilities that improve device diagnostics and operational reliability. Working closely with Product, Design, Architecture, and other engineering teams, you will coordinate priorities across multiple concurrent initiatives and technology stacks. This role is ideal for an experienced engineering leader who enjoys solving complex device-platform challenges while building scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions that improve healthcare experiences.

Accountabilities

  • Lead engineering delivery across multiple device-focused product areas, including field operations tooling, exam-room patient engagement technology, waiting-room displays, and back-office systems.
  • Manage and develop a team of senior Engineering Leads and individual contributors, taking responsibility for hiring, performance management, coaching, and career development.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership where needed, contributing to production code, reviewing pull requests, troubleshooting defects, and guiding implementation decisions.
  • Establish and promote engineering best practices that improve software quality, maintainability, reliability, and development efficiency.
  • Champion AI-assisted and agentic engineering practices across teams, encouraging effective adoption of development tools and supporting AI-powered product capabilities such as automated device diagnostics.
  • Coordinate priorities, dependencies, and delivery across at least three active product areas with different technology stacks, team structures, and levels of maturity.
  • Contribute to architecture reviews, technical proposals, and engineering governance processes, bringing expertise in device fleets and deployment constraints to architectural decisions.
  • Partner with Product and Design leaders to align engineering execution with product priorities and customer needs.
  • Oversee a blended team of full-time employees and contractors working across onshore and offshore locations.
  • Escalate staffing, organizational, and resource requirements to engineering leadership and help establish the conditions for successful delivery.
  • Guide engineering teams in building and maintaining software for remotely managed devices, accounting for limited device resources, intermittent connectivity, hardware diversity, and operating-system compatibility.
  • Support reliable device-fleet operations through staged releases, health monitoring, remote troubleshooting, software update strategies, and rollback mechanisms.
  • Balance short-term delivery commitments with long-term technical sustainability, security, operational excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Help engineers and technical leaders grow their capabilities, making thoughtful decisions about when to provide direct technical guidance and when to empower team members to lead.
  • Encourage improvements in engineering delivery metrics, development workflows, vulnerability management, and software security practices.
  • At least 10 years of software engineering experience, including a minimum of 2 years leading engineers or engineering teams.
  • Recent hands-on technical experience within the past 1–2 years, such as writing production code, reviewing pull requests, designing implementations, developing architecture plans, or troubleshooting software defects.
  • Strong practical experience with native Android development using Kotlin and modern Android engineering practices.
  • Experience with Android Open Source Project (AOSP), customized Android ROMs, rooted or kiosk-mode devices, APK distribution, or Android operating-system upgrade programs.
  • Experience developing Android device platforms beyond conventional consumer mobile applications.
  • Proficiency in Java in addition to Kotlin.
  • Experience with JavaScript or TypeScript and React-based front-end development.
  • Experience building software for connected, managed, or remotely deployed devices, including an understanding of the operational challenges associated with physical device fleets.
  • Knowledge of device limitations and deployment considerations, including memory and storage constraints, processing capacity, intermittent connectivity, remote updates, and multiple hardware or operating-system generations.
  • Experience managing remotely deployed device fleets, including staged software releases, fleet-health monitoring, remote diagnostics, and update or rollback strategies.
  • Familiarity with backend technologies supporting device platforms, such as Kotlin/JVM services, Node.js, serverless architectures, microservices, or comparable technologies.
  • Working knowledge of cloud services and APIs used to support connected-device applications.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multiple concurrent products, workstreams, or technical domains while maintaining delivery quality and alignment.
  • Proven people-management skills, including hiring, performance evaluation, coaching, and career development.
  • Experience managing blended teams of employees and contractors.
  • Hands-on familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude, or similar solutions, together with experience promoting their adoption within engineering teams.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work effectively across Product, Design, Architecture, and engineering functions.
  • Ability to balance immediate delivery needs with long-term maintainability, reliability, and operational performance.
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience, is preferred.
  • Experience with BrightSign or other digital signage and device-management platforms, such as SignageOS or Broadsign, is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with IoT technologies and protocols, including AWS IoT Core, MQTT, Device Shadow, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), or GATT, is desirable.
  • Experience with Jetpack Compose, Kotlin Multiplatform, or comparable cross-platform native architectures is a plus.
  • Experience contributing to architecture review boards, RFC processes, or similar technical-governance models is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with product-trio operating models, engineering delivery metrics such as DORA, and AI-powered capabilities such as automated diagnostics or self-healing device operations is an advantage.
  • Experience with agent-orchestration frameworks and patterns, including MCP-based tool access, AWS Bedrock AgentCore, Strands Agents, or comparable technologies, is desirable.
  • Knowledge of vulnerability management, application security, and security reviews for distributed or device-based systems is beneficial.
  • Experience in healthcare or another regulated industry, as well as leading teams through organizational change or transitions, is a plus.
  • Candidates should be prepared to complete a coding assessment as part of the interview process.
  • Competitive base salary ranging from $154,200 to $212,200, with final compensation determined by skills, qualifications, professional experience, and geographic location.
  • Fully remote work opportunity within the United States.
  • Flexible time off to support rest, personal commitments, and work-life balance.
  • Hybrid work options where applicable.
  • Comprehensive benefits package for eligible full-time employees.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Mental and emotional wellness resources.
  • A supportive, inclusive work environment focused on employee well-being and professional development.
  • Opportunities to influence engineering strategy, shape device-platform architecture, and lead impactful technical initiatives.
  • The opportunity to advance AI-assisted engineering practices and work on innovative digital health technology.
  • Travel approximately 2–4 times per year.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
