The posting

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Software Engineer (Node) based in United States.

This is a senior backend-focused engineering role with ownership of technical direction, architecture, and engineering quality for Node.js services. You will remain deeply hands-on while designing and delivering complex backend capabilities using Node.js, TypeScript, and Next.js API routes. The role combines system-level architecture with API design, data modeling, performance optimization, security, testing, and reliable production delivery. You will collaborate closely with frontend and mobile engineers to establish stable, well-documented API contracts and interfaces. The position also provides technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring, engineering standards, and architectural decision-making. Healthcare compliance, including HIPAA requirements, is an important consideration when designing secure, scalable, and highly available services. This is a fully remote opportunity for an experienced backend engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems while raising the quality bar for a development team.

Accountabilities:

  • Lead backend architecture and system design decisions covering service and API structures, asynchronous and real-time processing, rate limiting, resiliency, and relational and document-based data models.
  • Design and implement complex backend features using Node.js and TypeScript, delivering production-quality solutions that establish strong engineering standards.
  • Develop sophisticated Next.js API routes and Node.js services covering API contracts, authentication and authorization, caching, messaging, and database access.
  • Create stable and well-documented interfaces that enable frontend and mobile engineering teams to build reliable products and integrations.
  • Provide day-to-day technical leadership to the Node.js engineering sub-team through code reviews, technical guidance, mentoring, and the definition and enforcement of coding standards.
  • Own backend performance optimization and help ensure services meet requirements for scalability, reliability, security, and high availability.
  • Establish and maintain backend testing strategies and CI/CD practices that support dependable production delivery.
  • Ensure backend systems and engineering practices align with healthcare security and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA compliance.
  • Document architectural decisions and technical approaches clearly for engineering teams and relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborate across engineering functions to resolve complex technical challenges and continuously improve backend architecture and development practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong primary focus on backend engineering.
  • Deep, demonstrable proficiency with Node.js, TypeScript, and Next.js API routes, including experience building and operating production services and APIs.
  • Strong experience with relational and document database design and data-access patterns.
  • Experience deploying and operating backend services on a cloud platform, with Azure experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of backend architecture, API design, authentication and authorization, caching, messaging, asynchronous processing, resiliency, and scalable service design.
  • Experience with production engineering practices including testing, CI/CD, monitoring, performance optimization, and secure software development.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership through architecture decisions, code reviews, mentoring, and engineering standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently tackle complex backend engineering challenges.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with frontend, mobile, and other technical teams.
  • 10+ years of professional backend or full-stack development experience is preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare technology, health insurance, or another regulated industry is preferred.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data standards such as HL7 FHIR, X12, or NCPDP as applied to data integration and API design is desirable.
  • Experience with real-time technologies such as WebSockets, event-driven architecture, GraphQL/tRPC, and monorepo tooling is a plus.
  • Candidates must reside in the Eastern or Central U.S. time zones.
  • Availability to work primarily during business hours of 9 AM–5 PM CST on weekdays.
  • Ability to attend an in-person interview at the Dallas headquarters if selected as a finalist.
  • Ability to maintain a dedicated work area separate from other living spaces, ensuring appropriate information privacy and security.
  • Reliable access to an existing high-speed internet connection and the ability to securely handle sensitive company information.
  • Fully remote work environment.
  • Opportunity to take ownership of backend architecture and technical direction.
  • Senior individual-contributor role with significant influence over engineering standards and system design.
  • Hands-on work with Node.js, TypeScript, Next.js, cloud infrastructure, APIs, databases, CI/CD, and modern backend architecture.
  • Opportunity to mentor engineers and shape technical practices across the Node.js development team.
  • Exposure to healthcare technology and regulated-system requirements, including HIPAA-compliant engineering.
  • Collaboration with frontend, mobile, and other engineering teams on stable and scalable API platforms.
  • Opportunity to work on complex backend systems with a focus on performance, security, scalability, and reliability.
  • Fully distributed working environment, with headquarters in Dallas, Texas.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
