This role offers the opportunity to shape compelling, news-driven video stories designed to inform audiences and influence public conversations. You’ll collaborate closely with reporters, producers, and fellow video professionals across a diverse range of formats, from breaking news and policy explainers to interviews and field documentaries. The role combines creative storytelling with strong technical editing skills and editorial judgment. You’ll help develop stories from concept through final edit, ensuring they are visually engaging and optimized for social platforms. Success requires curiosity, initiative, meticulous organization, and a passion for meaningful storytelling. Accountabilities
- Conceptualize, produce, and edit a wide range of video content, including studio productions, text-driven narratives, breaking news, interviews, policy explainers, and field documentaries.
- Collaborate with reporters and producers during the scripting and development process, suggesting effective visuals and providing feedback on story structure when needed.
- Apply strong editorial and video-production practices across the social platforms where content is distributed.
- Source, capture, organize, and incorporate additional footage, images, graphics, and other visual assets to strengthen storytelling.
- Design and create engaging motion graphics and visual treatments using appropriate editing and design tools.
- Select music and sound effects that enhance the storytelling while ensuring appropriate usage and documentation.
- Maintain well-organized project files and media archives to support efficient production workflows and future asset reuse.
- Help expand and improve the organization’s video and visual asset library.
- Manage multiple editing projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and consistently meet publishing schedules and deadlines.
- Complete assignments from supervisors and colleagues while maintaining a high standard of creative and technical quality in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated mastery of Adobe Premiere Pro; experience with After Effects is required or strongly valued, with Photoshop and Illustrator skills considered a plus.
- Professional or substantial hands-on experience in documentary, journalism, political, or news-focused video production.
- Experience in producing, scripting, story development, or related editorial work is a plus.
- Strong understanding of visual storytelling, pacing, narrative structure, and techniques for creating videos that capture and retain audience attention.
- Up-to-date knowledge of video editing software, presets, plugins, and evolving production workflows.
- Excellent media organization and asset-management skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with producers, reporters, and other creative partners.
- Self-motivated and proactive approach, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of assignments.
- Ability to adapt quickly, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality work within a nimble production environment.
- Genuine interest in economic justice, progressive political change, and impactful public-interest storytelling.
- Salary of $90,000 per year.
- Fully remote position within the United States.
