About the Job.

JPI has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Platform Engineer to join the Solution Delivery team within the Digital Engineering organization. The Senior Data Platform Engineer owns JPI's core data platform end to end and serves as a key technical partner across application development, data and analytics, and enterprise architecture.

This role owns the stability, performance, and evolution of JPI's Oracle data platform, including Oracle Autonomous AI Database with the Transaction Processing workload type for operational workloads and the Lakehouse workload type for analytics and AI-ready data access. It also owns the management of semi-structured and unstructured data accessed through Autonomous AI Lakehouse and OCI Object Storage, and partners with the infrastructure team that administers the underlying Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) tenancy.

This is a hands-on, senior-level individual contributor role blending database operations, data management, data architecture, and development enablement.

As the platform grows toward mission-critical, 24x7 workloads, this role plays a central part in establishing best practices, automation, and long-term scalability. It offers genuine technical breadth, direct influence over architecture and standards, and real ownership of JPI's data platform.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

Database Operations & Reliability (Core)

  • Own day-to-day administration of Oracle Autonomous AI Database environments, including Transaction Processing and Lakehouse workloads.
  • Ensure database availability, performance, backup, and recovery readiness.
  • Monitor capacity, resource usage, and growth trends across environments.
  • Lead performance tuning for SQL, PL/SQL, and data access patterns.
  • Plan and execute patching, upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Prepare the platform for future mission-critical / 24x7 workloads.

Multi-Platform & Unstructured Data Management (Core)

  • Administer and support storage and access patterns for semi-structured and unstructured data, including JSON, Parquet, Avro, documents, and file-based assets.
  • Manage Oracle Autonomous AI Lakehouse and related analytics capabilities.
  • Own cost management, resource monitoring, and query performance across these platforms.
  • Define standards for data organization, file formats, partitioning, and lifecycle across the data lake and lakehouse layers.
  • Establish governance, cataloging, and access-control practices spanning structured and unstructured assets.

Architecture & Standards

  • Define and maintain data platform architecture standards, patterns, and best practices.
  • Partner with the Enterprise Architect to align platform design with enterprise systems and integration strategy.
  • Guide schema design, indexing strategies, partitioning, and data modeling decisions.
  • Advise on the right platform for a given workload across transactional, analytical, and file-based use cases.
  • Support capacity planning and long-term platform roadmap decisions.

Development Enablement

  • Partner closely with application development teams to support their database and platform needs.
  • Establish repeatable deployment and rollback patterns for database and platform changes.
  • Review database-related pull requests for performance, security, and standards compliance.
  • Help development teams design scalable, maintainable data solutions.

Data Platform & Analytics Support

  • Support analytical and AI-ready workloads in Oracle Autonomous AI Lakehouse, including reporting and downstream analytics.
  • Partner with data and analytics teams on performance optimization and data access patterns.
  • Support master data model, integration hubs, and data synchronization workflows.
  • Assist in designing reliable data pipelines and changing propagation patterns.

Security & Compliance (Shared Ownership)

  • Collaborate with IT Operations security roles to support SOC 2 requirements.
  • Manage encryption, auditing, access controls, and role-based security across databases and analytics platforms.
  • Participate in security reviews, audits, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure secure configurations aligned with enterprise standards across all platform components.

Non-essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Participate in vendor and licensing discussions related to database and analytics platform services.
  • Contribute to internal documentation, runbooks, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education, Work Experience & Physical Requirements

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Preferred: relevant certifications such as Oracle Database, SnowPro, or Microsoft Fabric Analytics Engineer.

Required Work Experience & Skills

  • 8+ years of experience as an Oracle Database Administrator, including time in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Autonomous AI Database, including Transaction Processing and/or Lakehouse workload types.
  • Deep knowledge of Oracle performance tuning, indexing, execution plans, and SQL optimization.
  • Experience supporting both transactional and analytical workloads.
  • Practical experience managing semi-structured or unstructured data at scale, including file formats such as JSON, Parquet, or Avro.
  • Hands-on administration of a cloud lakehouse/analytics platform
  • Strong understanding of backup, recovery, and high-availability concepts.
  • Ability to operate independently as the owner of JPI's Oracle databases and data platform, in partnership with the infrastructure team.
  • Comfort moving between deep Oracle database work and multi-platform data management rather than specializing in one area.
  • Strong collaboration skills with developers, data teams, and architects.

Preferred Work Experience & Skills

  • Familiarity with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) as the environment hosting Oracle Autonomous AI Database services.
  • Experience with data cataloging or governance tooling.
  • Experience supporting compliance frameworks such as SOC 2.
  • Background in data platforms, master data model, or analytics-oriented environments.
  • Interest in automation and platform observability tooling.

Physical Requirements

  • Primarily sedentary work performed in an office or remote office environment, with extended periods of computer and keyboard use.
  • Occasional availability outside standard business hours to support maintenance windows, patching, and platform incidents.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
