1. Job Summary
We are looking for a hands-on Project Engineer (M&E) with experience in Design & Build, interior fit-out, construction or M&E engineering projects.
The role combines site surveys, client requirement gathering, M&E drawing preparation, design coordination and on-site technical support. The successful candidate will work closely with clients, consultants, Project Managers, site teams, subcontractors and other trades to ensure that M&E drawings are accurate, coordinated, practical and aligned with client requirements, architectural floor plans, project specifications and actual site conditions.
The candidate is expected to be comfortable working both in the office and on site, taking ownership of assigned technical matters from initial site survey and drawing preparation through installation, troubleshooting, testing and handover.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Site Survey & Requirement Gathering
- Conduct site visits and surveys to understand client requirements, project scope and existing site conditions.
- Take accurate site measurements and verify dimensions, ceiling heights, service routes, existing M&E provisions and other relevant constraints.
- Liaise with clients, consultants and internal project teams to clarify technical requirements and identify potential design or installation issues.
- Assess site conditions and identify discrepancies between existing conditions, architectural floor plans and proposed M&E installations.
- Provide technical input and recommend practical solutions to address site constraints.
B. M&E Drawing Preparation & Design Coordination
- Prepare, develop and revise M&E shop drawings using AutoCAD in accordance with client requirements, architectural floor plans, project specifications and relevant technical standards.
- Develop coordinated drawings for relevant M&E systems, including ACMV, ducting, piping, plumbing and other applicable services within the project scope.
- Ensure drawings accurately reflect site measurements, design intent, installation requirements and actual site conditions.
- Coordinate M&E drawings with architectural, structural, electrical and other relevant trade drawings to identify and resolve clashes or discrepancies before installation.
- Review drawings and incorporate comments, revisions and feedback from clients, consultants, Project Managers and site teams.
- Identify potential design conflicts, constructability issues and installation constraints, and propose appropriate technical solutions.
- Maintain proper drawing revisions and ensure that the latest approved or authorised drawings are communicated to the relevant project stakeholders.
C. Site Coordination & Project Progress
- Attend weekly site coordination meetings with clients, consultants, main contractors, Project Managers and subcontractors as required.
- Provide updates on M&E drawing progress, installation status, outstanding technical matters and proposed rectification works.
- Coordinate with site teams and subcontractors to ensure installation works are carried out in accordance with the relevant drawings, specifications and project requirements.
- Conduct regular site inspections to verify that installations are consistent with the drawings and identify deviations or potential issues.
- Follow up on outstanding site matters, drawing submissions, approvals and technical clarifications to minimise delays and rework.
- Work closely with the Project Manager and site team to monitor progress and ensure timely completion of assigned engineering and coordination tasks.
D. Technical Troubleshooting & Rectification
- Attend to site issues relating to M&E drawings, design discrepancies, installation methods and coordination between trades.
- Investigate discrepancies between approved drawings, actual site conditions and installed works, and determine the appropriate corrective actions.
- Revise drawings and propose practical alternatives where site conditions or installation constraints require changes.
- Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to resolve technical issues and ensure rectification works are properly implemented.
- Escalate significant design changes, technical risks, cost implications or programme delays to the Project Manager and relevant parties for review and approval.
- Provide technical guidance and clarification to site supervisors, subcontractors and installation teams.
E. Quality Assurance, Testing & Commissioning
- Check M&E installations against relevant drawings, specifications and project requirements.
- Assist in inspections, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of relevant M&E systems.
- Identify defects, coordinate rectification works and follow up on outstanding items before project handover.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including inspection records, test reports, as-built drawings and other required submissions.
- Support the preparation of operation and maintenance manuals, defect liability documentation and handover records, where applicable.
- Assist with end-user training and provide technical support during project handover, where required.
F. Documentation & Stakeholder Communication
- Maintain accurate records of site surveys, measurements, drawing revisions, technical clarifications and site issues.
- Prepare technical reports, progress updates, method statements and other engineering documents as required.
- Communicate drawing changes and technical requirements clearly to clients, consultants, Project Managers, site teams and subcontractors.
- Ensure that outstanding technical matters are tracked and followed through to resolution.
- Perform other relevant engineering and project coordination duties as assigned.
3. Qualifications & Requirements
