At Kesko Senukai Digital, you'll join a team that builds and improves systems used every day by hundreds of thousands of customers across the Baltics through well-known brands such as Senukai, 1A, and Krauta.

As a Backend Engineer, you'll have an opportunity to contribute to products that support the full order journey, working on solutions that have a visible impact on both customers and internal teams. You'll be trusted to take ownership of your work, collaborate with experienced colleagues, and help shape technical decisions within your area.

You will join the Operations team, responsible for developing and maintaining the core systems used by customer support agents, store employees, warehouse teams, and couriers. Together, we work on critical business processes, including order management, warehouse operations, store operations, and courier management, focusing on reliability, scalability, and continuous improvement. Whether you're improving existing services or building new capabilities, you'll be working closely with people across different teams to deliver solutions that make everyday work easier and create a better experience for our customers.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience building backend applications with Ruby and continuously developing your technical expertise.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and a track record of contributing to production-grade systems.
  • Experience designing, developing, maintaining, and operating reliable, scalable, and maintainable software, with ownership of solutions throughout their lifecycle.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with automated testing (unit and integration tests) and production troubleshooting to ensure high-quality and resilient systems.
  • Ability to take ownership, drive improvements, and work effectively in ambiguous environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to clearly document and share technical knowledge.
  • A collaborative mindset, with enthusiasm for knowledge sharing, learning from others, and achieving goals together as a team.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Docker and containerized environments.
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Understanding of web security best practices and common vulnerabilities.

How You’ll Work:

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team of Developers, a Product Owner, Business Analyst, and Engineering Manager, delivering solutions in two-week sprint cycles.
  • Partner with Solution Architects to shape technical solutions that are scalable, maintainable, and aligned with the broader system landscape.
  • Work closely with DevOps engineers to ensure reliable deployments, monitoring, and smooth system operations.
  • Take ownership of improving and maintaining the systems that support everyday operations across the business.
  • Tackle interesting engineering challenges, including large-scale data processing, high-traffic systems, and complex business workflows.
  • Explore and use modern AI tools to enhance productivity, streamline development, and support problem-solving.

What We offer:

  • Professional Growth: Vertical and horizontal career paths paired with continuous learning.
  • Health & Perks: Additional health insurance, SMART NET Gold loyalty membership with exclusive offers and discounts, and a birthday day off.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
