About the Company

Our client is a growing, employee-owned mechanical contractor providing comprehensive plumbing and HVAC services across multiple markets. With seven operating divisions and annual revenues of approximately $160–180 million, the company has established a strong presence in the industry and continues to pursue strategic growth.

As an employee-owned organization, the company offers a collaborative culture focused on long-term success, operational excellence, and creating value for its employee-owners.

About the Position

Our client is seeking a Director of Finance to join its leadership team in a strategic, CFO-track position. This individual will oversee the company's accounting and finance functions, providing financial leadership and supporting continued organizational growth.

This is an opportunity for an experienced finance leader to step into a direct succession role, with the expectation of developing into the company's Chief Financial Officer within approximately three years.

The Director of Finance will oversee two Controllers and play a key role in strengthening financial operations, reporting, and organizational infrastructure. As the company continues to grow, the position is expected to expand its oversight into additional functions, potentially including IT, risk management, and HR/payroll.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the company's accounting and finance functions across seven operating divisions.
  2. Provide strategic financial guidance to executive leadership to support business growth and profitability.
  3. Oversee and develop two Controllers, establishing strong financial processes and accountability.
  4. Direct financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  5. Support operational leaders with financial insights, performance metrics, and decision-making.
  6. Identify opportunities to improve financial controls, systems, and processes.
  7. Help develop and execute long-term financial strategies aligned with company objectives.
  8. Prepare for expanded executive responsibilities, including potential oversight of IT, risk management, and HR/payroll.
  9. Work closely with company leadership to prepare for an eventual transition into the CFO position.

Requirements

  1. Significant experience in accounting and finance leadership, preferably within the construction or mechanical contracting industry.
  2. Proven ability to lead accounting teams and oversee multiple financial functions.
  3. Experience managing Controllers or senior accounting professionals.
  4. Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and operational finance.
  5. Demonstrated ability to support a growing, multi-division organization.
  6. Experience improving financial processes, internal controls, and reporting systems.
  7. Strong strategic thinking, leadership, and communication skills.
  8. Ability to operate at both the strategic and operational levels.
  9. Interest in a long-term CFO succession opportunity.

Benefits

  1. Competitive base salary of $190,000–$230,000.
  2. Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).
  3. Opportunity to advance into the CFO position within approximately three years.
  4. Executive leadership exposure and long-term career development.
  5. Opportunity to influence the financial strategy of a growing, multi-division organization.
  6. Employee-owned company culture with a focus on shared success.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
