The company provides services across utility systems, renewable energy, instrumentation, wireless communications, and commercial and industrial construction.

With multiple locations throughout the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast, the organization supports projects nationwide for major customers, general contractors, and EPC partners. Its reputation is built on technical expertise, a strong commitment to safety, and lasting client relationships.

About the Position

The Director of Fleet & Equipment will lead the strategy, financial performance, and lifecycle management of a corporate fleet valued at more than $20 million and comprising over 750 vehicles, tools, and equipment assets. This is a high-impact leadership opportunity to improve fleet utilization, control costs, enhance equipment reliability, and support operations across utility transmission and distribution, renewable energy, and commercial and industrial construction.

The successful candidate will combine strategic planning, financial expertise, equipment knowledge, and operational leadership to build a standardized, technology-enabled fleet management program that supports the company's continued growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop long-term fleet strategies, capital plans, replacement schedules, and standardized equipment specifications aligned with business needs.
  • Fleet Lifecycle Management: Oversee procurement, leasing, maintenance, utilization, remarketing, and disposal of fleet assets to maximize performance and value.
  • Financial Management: Manage fleet capital and operating budgets, optimize total cost of ownership (TCO), establish cost-recovery practices, and improve asset-level financial performance.
  • Vendor Management: Negotiate agreements with equipment manufacturers, dealers, rental providers, and other strategic vendors to improve pricing, service, and availability.
  • Technology & Innovation: Advance the use of telematics, GPS, predictive maintenance, digital inspections, analytics, and AI-enabled forecasting to improve fleet planning and operational efficiency.
  • Maintenance & Reliability: Establish maintenance standards and performance measures that increase equipment uptime, improve preventive maintenance compliance, and reduce unplanned downtime.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure fleet operations meet applicable DOT, OSHA, EPA, and state requirements while strengthening inspection procedures, operator training, and risk management.
  • Cross-Functional Leadership: Partner with Operations, Project Management, Safety, Finance, and Supply Chain to forecast equipment requirements and ensure field teams have the resources needed for successful project execution.
  • Performance Reporting: Develop executive dashboards and reporting processes to measure utilization, maintenance performance, lifecycle costs, and overall fleet effectiveness.
  • Team Development: Lead and develop fleet personnel across multiple locations, promoting accountability, continuous improvement, and consistent standards throughout the organization.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in fleet management, equipment management, or operations leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale fleets with asset values of $10 million or more.
  • Required experience in electrical contracting, utility transmission and distribution, renewable energy, or heavy civil construction.
  • Strong financial and analytical skills, including capital planning, budgeting, cost-recovery strategies, and total cost of ownership modeling.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fleet safety, maintenance practices, and applicable DOT, OSHA, EPA, and state regulations.
  • Experience overseeing fleet procurement, lifecycle planning, maintenance programs, and vendor negotiations.
  • Proven ability to lead distributed teams and collaborate effectively across multiple business units and functions.
  • Familiarity with fleet management platforms, telematics, ERP integrations, and data-driven operational tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with AI-enabled analytics, predictive maintenance, and automated fleet optimization preferred.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation aligned with experience and qualifications.
  • Opportunity to lead a significant corporate fleet and influence enterprise-wide operational performance.
  • Senior leadership visibility and direct impact on capital investment, cost management, and business strategy.
  • Opportunity to advance fleet technology, digital transformation, and AI-driven optimization.
  • Collaborative environment working with operations, finance, safety, and executive leadership.
  • Comprehensive employee benefits package.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
