About the Company

Our client is an established specialty contractor providing temporary site systems for commercial construction projects throughout New England. Since its founding, the company has built strong relationships with some of the region’s most respected general contractors, delivering reliable solutions across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.

As the company enters its next phase of growth, ownership is seeking an experienced operational leader to help strengthen its infrastructure, improve execution, and increase profitability. This is an opportunity to join a growing, owner-operated business where your leadership will have a direct and measurable impact.

About the Position

The General Manager will oversee daily operations, lead field and shop personnel, and build the processes needed to support continued growth. Reporting directly to the owners, this individual will have significant autonomy to improve performance, develop the team, and help shape the company’s future.

This is an operations-first leadership role, not a traditional sales position. The ideal candidate understands how to coordinate crews, equipment, schedules, and customer expectations while building strong relationships with general contractors and supporting long-term business development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct daily scheduling, dispatching, and coordination of field crews, equipment, installations, and removals across multiple active projects.
  • Oversee and develop field installers, shop personnel, the shop manager, and part-time crews.
  • Establish clear expectations and accountability for safety, quality, productivity, and on-time execution.
  • Improve operational processes, procedures, and systems to increase efficiency and support business growth.
  • Coordinate with inside and outside sales personnel to ensure a smooth transition from estimating through project completion.
  • Strengthen relationships with existing general contractor clients and pursue opportunities for long-term and master service agreements.
  • Monitor job profitability, labor costs, and equipment utilization to improve financial performance.
  • Partner with ownership on budgeting, pricing, hiring, organizational development, and strategic growth initiatives.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in equipment rental, specialty contracting, construction services, or a related industry.
  • 3+ years of experience managing field crews, a shop, a branch, or a comparable operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage daily scheduling and dispatch across multiple job sites.
  • Strong understanding of commercial construction operations and general contractor expectations.
  • Proven leadership skills, including the ability to develop employees, establish accountability, and improve operational performance.
  • Comfort working in a small, owner-operated business where flexibility, initiative, and hands-on leadership are essential.
  • Branch or operations management experience with an equipment rental, scaffolding, fencing, temporary site systems, or construction services company.
  • Established relationships with project managers and superintendents at major general contractors in the Boston market.
  • Experience negotiating or managing long-term service agreements.
  • A track record of increasing revenue, improving margins, or growing the profitability of an operation.

Benefits

  • Target total compensation of approximately $200,000 to start, with significant upside potential.
  • Performance-based incentives tied to company profit growth, providing a meaningful opportunity to share in the results you help create.
  • Direct access to ownership and the ability to influence business strategy and operational decisions.
  • An established customer base with leading general contractors throughout New England.
  • The opportunity to build processes, strengthen the team, and help guide a growing company through its next stage.
  • A high-impact leadership role with substantial autonomy and a clear connection between performance and financial reward.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
