The posting

About the Company

Our client is an established, family-owned heavy civil and environmental contractor headquartered in the Athens, Georgia area with approximately $300 million in annual revenue. The company specializes in complex self-perform earthwork and environmental construction, including coal combustion residuals (CCR) projects, ash pond closures, ash excavation, and landfill cell construction and closures.

With a large owned equipment fleet and a strong reputation across the Southeast, the company is expanding into additional heavy civil and data center site work. Following a recent ownership transition, the company is investing heavily in growth, competitive compensation, and strengthening its operations leadership team.

The culture is entrepreneurial and family-oriented, with direct access to senior leadership and daily interaction with the VP of Operations.

About the Position

Our client is seeking Project Managers at the APM, PM, and Senior PM levels to lead large-scale heavy civil and environmental projects throughout the Southeast. Two positions are currently available.

The ideal candidate will have experience managing major earthwork, environmental, underground utility, paving, or other heavy civil projects. Direct CCR experience is highly desirable, but strong heavy civil Project Managers without CCR experience will be considered and trained in the specialized aspects of the work.

Projects range from $20 million to $250 million and include:

  • CCR / coal ash projects: Ash pond closures, ash excavation, and regulatory compliance work, often lasting 2–8 years
  • Landfill projects: Cell construction and closures, typically lasting 4–12 months
  • Heavy civil/site development: Large-scale earthwork and expanding data center site work

The Project Manager will have full ownership of project delivery from mobilization through closeout, working closely with field leadership, clients, and the VP of Operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage project schedules, budgets, cost control, billing, change orders, and overall financial performance
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera P6
  • Lead project teams including Superintendents, Foremen, equipment operators, and other field personnel
  • Oversee large-scale earthmoving and environmental construction operations
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for owners and clients
  • Manage owner document control, compliance requirements, reporting, and project documentation
  • Maintain strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle
  • Coordinate mobilization, execution, subcontractors, equipment, materials, and project closeout
  • Maintain a significant on-site presence, particularly on long-term power plant projects
  • Partner directly with the VP of Operations on project strategy and execution
  • Help develop and strengthen the company's growing Project Management team

This is an opportunity to take ownership of some of the company's largest and most complex projects while helping shape the next stage of its growth.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a Project Manager, Senior APM, or Senior Project Manager in heavy civil construction
  • Experience with large-scale earthwork, environmental construction, underground utilities, paving, or related heavy civil work
  • CCR, coal ash, ash pond closure, or landfill construction experience strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of project financials, scheduling, cost control, change management, and client communication
  • Primavera P6 experience strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and project documentation systems
  • Ability and willingness to work on-site at long-term power plant projects
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related degree preferred; equivalent field experience will be considered
  • OSHA 30 certification is a plus
  • Experience working at major utility sites and familiarity with utility document control/compliance processes is a strong plus

Location flexibility: Candidates do not need to live in Athens, GA, provided they can reasonably access current project sites. Relocation to the Athens area is welcomed.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation based on experience and project level $150,000-$185,000
  • Opportunity to work on $20M–$250M heavy civil and environmental projects
  • Long-term, high-value project pipeline across the Southeast
  • Clear advancement path as the company adds Senior PM and Operations leadership positions
  • Direct access to the VP of Operations and senior leadership
  • Family-oriented, entrepreneurial company culture
  • Strong investment in company growth and employee development
  • Site-specific and client-required certifications provided after hire
  • Opportunity to expand into emerging heavy civil and data center site work

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
