About the Company

Our client is an established structural and miscellaneous steel contractor delivering projects throughout the Southwestern United States. The company provides comprehensive steel solutions, coordinating preconstruction, detailing, fabrication, and erection while supporting design-assist and design-build project delivery.

With an integrated approach to project execution and a collaborative team spanning multiple disciplines, the organization is committed to delivering quality steel packages while maintaining strong relationships with clients, general contractors, and project partners.

About the Position

Our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager – Structural & Miscellaneous Steel to take ownership of projects from detailing through fabrication, erection, and final closeout. This remote opportunity is ideal for a steel project management professional who understands the complete structural steel lifecycle and how drawing releases, fabrication schedules, material procurement, and erection sequencing impact overall project performance.

Reporting to the Director of Project Management, the Project Manager will oversee project schedules, budgets, contract administration, client relationships, and execution. This individual will work closely with dedicated preconstruction, detailing, fabrication, purchasing, safety, and project administration teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and general contractors following preconstruction turnover.
  • Coordinate engineering, design teams, and detailing personnel to manage drawing releases, model reviews, RFIs, and submittals.
  • Align material procurement, fabrication releases, deliveries, and erection sequencing with project schedules.
  • Direct and support assigned Assistant Project Managers and project coordinators.
  • Coordinate vendors, sub-fabricators, and erection subcontractors throughout project execution.
  • Manage project scope changes, subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and contract administration.
  • Develop monthly cost forecasts, oversee progress billing, and manage project cash flow.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and overall performance to identify and resolve potential issues.
  • Coordinate field issue resolution with erection teams, safety personnel, and quality teams.
  • Participate in project meetings and jobsite visits to maintain alignment and address project needs.
  • Maintain project documentation and document control through Procore.
  • Drive final billing, retention release, and project closeout activities.

Work Arrangement & Travel: This is a remote position with project-related travel throughout the Western United States. Candidates located in California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado, or Nevada are preferred, although surrounding states may also be considered. Travel requirements vary by project and may include overnight trips or weekly jobsite visits during active erection phases.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience managing structural and miscellaneous steel projects.
  • 3–5+ years of experience as a Project Manager or Assistant Project Manager within the structural steel industry.
  • Strong understanding of the full structural steel project lifecycle, including detailing, fabrication, procurement, delivery, and erection.
  • Experience with design-assist and design-build project delivery preferred.
  • Structural steel detailing experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction contracts, change management, subcontract administration, and progress billing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, OneNote, and Bluebeam Revu/Studio.
  • Experience with Procore document control and project management workflows.
  • Ability to navigate IFC detailing models using Trimble Connect.
  • Experience with Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 preferred.
  • Familiarity with Tekla or SDS2 is a plus.
  • Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and client service skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate effectively across internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel for project meetings and jobsite visits, including overnight travel and periodic weekly site visits.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred, but not required.

Benefits

  • Competitive annual compensation of $100,000–$150,000, based on experience.
  • Remote work flexibility with project-related travel.
  • Opportunity to manage complex structural and miscellaneous steel projects throughout the Western United States.
  • Collaboration with dedicated preconstruction, detailing, fabrication, purchasing, safety, and project administration teams.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
