The posting

About the company:

In the coming decades, demand for critical minerals such as copper, lithium, and cobalt will continue to grow. These minerals are needed to build electric infrastructure, vehicles, data centers, and electronics. However, the mining industry is making 10x fewer discoveries per dollar spent on exploration compared to 30 years ago because the easy-to-find, near surface deposits have largely been discovered.

KoBold was founded to be the first AI native mineral exploration, mine development, and technology development company. Our goal is to turn mineral exploration into a repeatable science to discover the minerals the world needs—by integrating artificial intelligence, human intelligence, and new technology. Our multidisciplinary teams of data scientists, engineers, and geologists work together to build data systems, design new sensors, and establish industry-leading workflows to develop and test subsurface predictions on our exploration projects.

Our first discovery, Mingomba, is a high-grade copper deposit in Zambia, found after spending materially less than industry average. We are developing Mingomba with the same technical rigor that we apply to exploration. The Mingomba team brings together mine and processing engineers, geologists, data scientists, software engineers, and community, health & safety, construction, and operations specialists. By combining industry knowledge and cutting edge technology, we are developing Mingomba into a world class project that has safer and more predictable outcomes for ourselves, partners, and communities. It is expected to create thousands of good jobs for generations.

KoBold runs exploration programs in eight countries, all with the potential for another discovery.

KoBold is privately held; investors include institutional asset managers T. Rowe Price and Canada Pension Plan Investments; technology venture capitalists Andreessen Horowitz, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BOND Capital, Durable Capital, StepStone, and Standard Investments; and strategic natural resources companies BHP and Mitsubishi.

About The Role:

This role will own the end-to-end Accounts Payable function for multiple Zambian entities ensuring that all supplier invoices are processed accurately, paid on time, and recorded in accordance with company policy, Zambian tax law, and applicable accounting standards. You will be a primary point of contact for our supplier base, a key partner to procurement and operations teams across our exploration sites, and a critical contributor to month-end close, statutory reporting, and audit processes.

As a member of the Finance & Accounting team, you will help us build scalable, well-controlled AP processes that can grow with our rapidly expanding Zambian operations.

Responsibilities

  • Review supplier invoices for accuracy, completeness, and validity, including verification of VAT, withholding tax, and other applicable Zambian tax requirements
  • Code invoices accurately to the appropriate general ledger accounts, cost centers, projects, and departments in line with the company’s chart of accounts
  • Proactively escalate irregularities, duplicate invoices, or potential fraud indicators to the Accounting Manager
  • Ensure all invoices are processed within agreed service levels to support timely payment runs and avoid late payment penalties or supply disruptions
  • Onboard new suppliers in the Procure to Pay system, ensuring complete and accurate vendor master data, including tax registration details, banking information, and contractual terms
  • Perform monthly reconciliations of supplier statements of account against the AP sub-ledger and resolve discrepancies before payment is released
  • Respond promptly and professionally to supplier queries regarding invoice status, payments, and account balances
  • Prepare weekly AP aging analyses with commentary on long-overdue invoices and proposed resolution actions
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of the AP sub-ledger to the general ledger and investigate any variances
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities, including accruals for unbilled goods and services, prepayments, and related AP balance sheet reconciliations
  • Provide AP-related inputs for cash flow forecasting and treasury planning
  • Ensure full compliance with Zambian VAT, withholding tax, PAYE on non-employee compensation where applicable, and other ZRA requirements
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready documentation supporting all AP transactions
  • Support internal, external, and tax audits by preparing schedules, retrieving supporting documentation, and responding to auditor queries
  • Contribute to the review and continuous improvement of AP policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Identify opportunities to automate, streamline, or strengthen invoice processing workflows

Qualifications

  • Professional accounting qualification: CA Zambia, ACCA, or CIMA
  • Current registered member in good standing with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA)
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive experience in an Accounts Payable or similar finance role, ideally in a multinational, mining, or other capital-intensive industry
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of Zambian tax regulations, including VAT, withholding tax, and ZRA filing requirements
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high standard of accuracy in financial work
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to investigate discrepancies independently
  • High level of personal integrity and ability to handle confidential financial information with discretion
  • Self-starter mindset with a willingness to take ownership and drive process improvements
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment characteristic of an early-stage, growth-oriented company
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with suppliers, auditors, and senior leadership

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
