An established engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced Geotechnical Department Manager to lead a growing geotechnical team in Charlotte, NC. The role combines technical oversight, operations, staff development, financial accountability, and business development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the full lifecycle of geotechnical engineering projects
  • Lead geotechnical engineers, geologists, project managers, and technicians
  • Ensure best practices, safety standards, and quality control
  • Perform technical review of proposals, reports, and calculations
  • Track department budget, revenue, forecasts, and financial performance
  • Set group goals and develop staff through training
  • Support business development through community involvement and client engagement
  • Promote company values, positive culture, and engagement

REQUIRED

  • BS in Civil or Geological Engineering (ABET accredited)
  • 10+ years in civil or geotechnical engineering
  • PE or PG license (unlicensed candidates must be eligible within 3 months of hire)
  • Leadership and team management experience
  • Department budgeting, forecasting, and P&L experience
  • Proven client relationship and business growth success
  • Strong understanding of site conditions and construction practices

PREFERRED

  • MS in Civil Engineering with geotechnical emphasis

COMPENSATION: $90,000 to $135,000 base, full benefits, relocation assistance.
