Koniag Management Services, a Koniag Government Services company, is seeking a Systems Engineer to support KMS and our government customer at Fort Lee, VA. This position requires the candidate to be able to obtain a Public Trust. This position requires daily on-site work, with no hybrid work opportunities. The Systems Engineer will join our product support team as an early-career engineer working on system integrations and product upgrades. You’ll help turn customer and stakeholder needs into clear technical requirements, follow them through design and integration, and verify that what we build does what it’s supposed to. You’ll work alongside senior engineers who will mentor you through onboarding and real project work from the start. Essential Functions, Responsibilities & Duties may include, but are not limited to:
Capture, write, and maintain system and subsystem requirements, and keep them traceable to design and test. Support system architecture work, including interface definitions and functional breakdowns. Help plan and run integration and verification activities, and document the results. Take part in design reviews, trade studies, and risk assessments. Work with hardware, software, mechanical, and test engineers to resolve technical issues across disciplines. Maintain technical documentation and configuration records. Communicate with customers, suppliers, or internal stakeholders on technical topics as you grow into the role.
Additional preferred skills:
Coursework, a thesis, or projects involving requirements engineering, system design, or verification and validation. Exposure to model-based systems engineering (SysML, Cameo/Capella or similar). Familiarity with requirements tools (e.g., DOORS, Polarion, Jama). Scripting or analysis in Python or MATLAB. Internship, co-op, or student team experience (e.g., Formula Student, CubeSat, robotics). Awareness of relevant standards for our industry [e.g., ISO 15288, ISO 26262, DO-178C, IEC 62304].
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related area (or equivalent). 5+ years' experience as a Systems Engineer or equal experience in developing, implementing, and enhancing information systems, preferably for the federal government. Familiar with enterprise architecture frameworks and diagrams/views. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Possess advanced troubleshooting skills. Lead and direct the work of others. 2+ years of experience supporting and sustaining DOD programs preferred.
