The posting

Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe!

Kraken https://kraken.tech/ powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.

We create the technology that redefines utilities and unlocks a new energy system of the future. By optimising renewable generation, building a more intelligent grid, and empowering utilities to deliver an exceptional customer experience, our operating system is transforming the industry worldwide.

It’s an incredibly exciting time to work in energy. Join us on our mission to improve the lives of ONE BILLION humans within the decade and shape a cleaner, better future for everyone.

THE TEAM:

The Comms team builds and manages the technology that enables Kraken to communicate with customers across multiple channels, including phone, email, live chat and physical post. The team is responsible for both the underlying systems and the product features that support these customer interactions.

A key area of the team is voice and telephony, where they build the technology used by energy and support specialists to speak with customers. This includes managing real-time calls, handling customers and specialists joining or leaving calls, responding to connection and network issues, and ensuring calls can be reliably maintained or recovered when problems occur.

Unlike more traditional transactional backend systems, much of the Comms technology is highly real-time and event-driven. The team works with event streams, queues and continuously changing system states to manage interactions as they happen. The team also integrates with third-party communication providers, such as Twilio, which supports Kraken’s phone networks and email sending. Overall, Comms sits at the intersection of engineering, product and customer operations, building the technology that enables Kraken’s customer-facing teams to communicate effectively and reliably with customers.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

- Build and maintain the real-time technology that enables Kraken’s customer communication channels, with a particular focus on voice and telephony.

- Develop reliable, event-driven systems that handle continuously changing states and interactions in real time.

- Work with event streams, queues and asynchronous processes to manage customer and energy specialist interactions.

- Build product features and tooling used by Kraken’s energy and support specialists to communicate with customers.

- Solve complex real-time challenges, such as customers or specialists joining and leaving calls, connection issues and dropped calls.

- Integrate Kraken’s systems with third-party communication providers, including platforms such as Twilio.

- Work closely with engineers, product teams and customer-facing teams to understand problems and build effective solutions.

- Help shape the technical direction of the Comms team as it grows, contributing to how the team’s focus, systems and ways of working evolve.

- Take ownership of projects and contribute to improving the reliability, scalability and overall experience of Kraken’s communication systems.

- Develop towards a people leadership role as the Comms team continues to grow.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

We're looking for someone with a general interest in technology and problem-solving; someone diligent and thoughtful.

Experience with the following:

- Python

- Django (or equiv. web framework)

- HTTP and REST APIs

- Celery and async processing

- Postgres

- AWS

- Terraform, Packer, Consul

- HTMX

- React and Redux

- Test Driven Development

- Spec Driven Development

- Domain driven design and modelling

- Experience working with event-driven, realtime systems

- Writing robust and fault-tolerant software

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
